 It is important to know about the main political parties of each state and what they believe in so that way voters can vote accordingly in elections. It is also important to be aware of how the representatives those within the state elected to office votes and if they are in lone with their political platform. Knowing both of this information will give those within the state the ability to properly support future candidates during the election season. North Carolina has two main political parties, Democratic and Republican. While North Carolina is considered a swing state, the governor of North Carolina is currently a Democrat while the legislation chambers are held by the Republican party. North Carolina has two United States Senators, and both are Republican. Out of all the congressional representatives North Carolina has, 8 are Republican and 5 are Democratic (North Carolina, n.d.).

         The North Carolina Republican Party platform is very conservative. Within their preamble of their platform, God is mentioned several times. Also, they “reaffirm the Constitution’s fundamental principles” (North Carolina Republican Party, 2022). The Republican Party’s platform continues discussing family, the economy, liberty, sanctity of life, and many other topics. The North Carolinas Republican Party’s platform holds to many biblical principles and followers of Christ should be able to easily relate to many statements within. One biblical principle the Republican Party holds to is the idea of marriage. Their platform states that they support “traditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman” (North Carolina Republican Party, 2022). This biblical platform can be supported by multiple verses. One verse is Matthew 19:4-6,

                            “…have you not read that he who create them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘therefore                               a an shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are                                   no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate” (English Standard                                            Version Bible, 2001, Matthew 19:4-6).

           Another topic that the Republican Party stands for that is also biblical is the sanctity of life. Article 4 of the Republican Party’s platform discusses the sanctity of life and multiple points they made can be supported with text from the Bible. North Carolina’s Republican Party believes that unborn children should receive constitutional rights and that women who are pregnant unexpectedly should be able to receive assistance and care. This is a biblical principle because followers of Christ should abstain from murdering others and the church should extend their hand to helps those in need. While these are only 2 biblical principles that Christians should agree on, North Carolina’s Republican Party platform has many other things within it that followers of Christ should agree on also.

         North Carolina elected Roy Cooper as the Governor in 2017. Governor Cooper’s political views are opposite of that the North Carolinas Republican Party believes. Governor Cooper ran Democrat and his time in office upholds the Democratic Political Party Platform. In June of 2021, Cooper vetoed the HB 453 bill which was trying to prohibit abortions based on race, sex, or disability (Roy Cooper III's Voting Records, n.d.). This veto aligns with the Democratic Platform stating “abortion must be safe, legal, accessible to all North Carolina women…” (Resolution and Platform Committee, 2020).

      For anybody who would like to get involved with politics at the local level to support a candidate they agree with, there are many options. They could contact the political party of their choice for their state and see what options are available to either volunteer their time or other ways they could help. For an example, the North Carolina Republican Party has options on how you can get involved and support candidates within the Republican party right on their website. Those interested could either join the ballot team, intern with the party, or volunteer for different jobs.
