Chapter 12 of this week’s reading is based on research ethics. From the readings, one can learn that research ethics serves two main purpose. The first purpose is to protect the subjects participating in the research process while the second benefit is to provide legal protect for the researchers. Crucially, in order for entities to fund the research process and the publishers to publish the findings of the research, they often require to understand the ethical findings of the research process. The emphasis of the ethical processes in research is based on the Tuskegee Syphilis case. When conducting any research process, there is the need for the adherence of the ethical principles that often include respect of persons, beneficence and justice. There is also the essence of consent in the conduct of research.
In Chapter 13, the emphasis is on participant recruitment. Participant recruitment in a research process is crucial since it is one of the parameters that determines the success of the research. There are 10 important steps are specifying, developing, contacting, disseminating, asking, consenting, screening, enrolling, retaining and reporting. These steps are essential to attaining the right individual for a study.
