Abstract

Data mining is mostly done by government agencies where they get the information so that they can use it to perform government practices. Some issues can get to emerge from Data mining, including violation of the individual’s private life.

Privacy issues with data mining

Data mining involves a situation where the data brokers get to collect data store the data and have the study of the data for the patterns. These include the data on healthcare records, shopping records and even court and property records then the information gets to be used in the fields such as intelligence gathering statistics and even in machine learning (Sharda et al.,2020). these data give out the information about individuals that they did not intend to give out to the public. Data mining does not take into consideration the ethical implications it can get to cause upon the individuals and the information. When it is first obtained, it violated the individual are not consulted to give consent on using their data, and that involves a violation of individuals privacy. Especially when the government wants to do data mining so that they can get to obtain information for national security, they should contact the individuals to receive the notice in advance. Purpose of data that it will get used upon, who will be gain access to data and how the data will get secured and if the data will get updated in the future or not (Joshi et al.,2018). When they don’t ask for consents from owners of information, the breach to the privacy of the individual, the data will be used by the cybercriminal when it is obtained to do cybercrimes such as invading into the financial records of individual and have their data altered. In some occasions, the data obtained by data mining poses a risk where the secret and personal information can get conveyed to unintended persons. these will threaten the security of individual in terms of their property and information (Du et al.,2018).

The privacy breached by data mining are real as many of the hackers have used the data obtained from data mining in violating into the individual property and their information concerning their accounts in the banks by use of hacking, they get money lost from the companies and individuals.
