Data Mining 1.0: Seeking Out the Experts
Purpose: To identify ideal candidates for an interview on the topic of solving the issue on homelessness.
1. Combining the results of the research topic from three of your websites on homelessness, identify 5-6 individuals or groups who would be potential interviewees.
2. In one or two sentences, describe the ideal person(s) or group of persons. Give a description for each person or group.
3. Find 5-6 individuals who fit the description. You can use the Internet (social media) or the library, or you can make use of faculty contacts, colleagues where you work, or contacts provided by fellow students. For example, if you are interested in finding out more about the non-profit organization on homelessness, you may want to interview an employee such as a or volunteer of that organization. You may be surprised at how quickly you will find that one of your co-workers or classmates knows someone from that organization.
4. Provide the name, qualifications, and contact information (phone number, mailing address, email address, and/or Web site) of each person you may seek to interview.
5. Frame the 8-10 questions for review: examples. How do you generate funding? How do you attract volunteers? What are the most popular projects that generate positive responses on your mission?
