Yanlin Zhu [Individual] Assignment #03

Submitted on: 10/12/2021

Assignment:

Data Warehouses have historically been a very expensive product, reserved for big corporations. Vendors such as Teradata and Oracle have dominated the market for a long time. However, a "new wave" of data warehousing solutions have been targeting smaller companies with new offerings affordable to them. For this assignment, you will select one of these two options:

a. Compare Snowflake and Cloudera

b. Compare the cloud-based Data Warehouses Amazon Redshift and Google BigQuery.

Please read about them and answer the following questions:

1. What is different about them, compared to the other major vendors?

2. What is their main selling point?

3. Do they have anything in common? What is it?

4. Other than data warehouse, do they offer other products? Which ones?

5. Can you name one or two other competitors of these two companies?

6. If you were a decision maker at one of the Fortune 500, why would you choose any of these vendors over a proven vendor such as Oracle or Teradata?

Data Management Solutions

Data warehousing is a new concept that has been dominated by few established service providers such as Oracle; the companies focus on the influential organizations and businesses with substantial financial muscles and neglect the small businesses. Luckily, businesses such as Snowflake and Cloudera saw an opportunity in the market gap. The article will discuss the difference between these two organizations and a big organization such as Oracle.

Oracle is widely regarded as a world leader in corporate software and Information Technology solutions. Its cloud computing and database products are well-known, but it has also depended on ambitious acquisitions and partnerships to strengthen its portfolio. The company is widely known for its Oracle software solution, which is a data management system. This contrasts with Snowflakes and Cloudera, small and upcoming data management solution organizations in Montana and California. The similarities between oracle and these two companies lie in the fact that they all offer data management solutions. Cloudera offers distributed logging services and search indexing, unlike data management services, while Snowflakes only majors in data cloud services.

Google and Teradata offer the biggest threat to these businesses as they remain the most significant competitors. As opposed to Oracle, these two organizations have primed themselves as the solution to data management challenges faced by small and medium-sized organizations through offering quality data management services at an affordable price. The advantage of choosing the two organizations instead of an established one lies in the cost; they charge less for equally competent services. As a decisionmaker, I would choose Cloudera over an established organization due to its efficiency.

80. Yanlin, your analysis is lacking. You talked more about Oracle than Cloudera and Snowflake. Please read the questions and talk about those topics in your write-up.

Not really a new concept
