Data Encryption Standard
Until not long ago, the primary standard for encrypting data was an algorithm that was symmetrically known as the Data Encryption Standard. It is a bit block cipher of 64, which means that it converts data into a code 64 bits at a time. This is differing from a stream cipher where only one bit in succession is converted. Data Encryption Standard was the outcome of project research set up in the late 1960s by the International Business Machine Corporation, which impacted a cipher, which is called Lucifer. It was decided to capitalize on Lucifer, and several massive changes were introduced. DES was developed by IBM team cryptographers that were led by L Walter in the early 1970s. In cryptography. The Triple Data Encryption Algorithm is a crucial block cipher that is symmetric, where it applies the cipher algorithm of DES three more times to each data block. 56-bit key DES is no longer regarded sufficient in modern cryptanalytic techniques face and power of supercomputing. Although a version of DES, Triple DES that is adapted uses the identical algorithm to produce encryption that is more secure. (Wikipedia, 2002)
The evolution of the Data Encryption Standards has transformed the business world to the advantage of the security of the storage of data. Accessibility of the data and communication has dramatically improved. The encryption keeps data storage systems secure, in that even if an intruder gains access to the data, they may not be able to read it. During transmission of data, either wireless or wired, is exposed to intruders. The encryption acts as an extra layer of security for the data. I have used encryption to secure my computer in that, in order to access it, one must decrypt it with a password. The only way to access my computer or mobile phone is to possess a decryption key.
