Capstone Essay

Writing on wars and disputes is a major aspect of fighting today. War Correspondent has the ability to get incredibly close to the fighting and thereby be ready to provide first-hand information about the progress and result of a conflict. Battles are now seen as continuing to be waged not only on the front line but also on TV and therefore in the dorm area of virtually every home in the country, encouraging audiences and readers to monitor these occurrences carefully. The battle is a dispute between countries, societies as well as between groups within a country that may be on the ground, at the shore, or even in the sky, often triggered by someone or something by violent means.

There are a number of fictitious stories, movies, and television shows in which the main focus of the authors and writers is to reveal the conflicts that can occur at any level. These conflicts and disputes may be among the family members, friends, or husband and wife. It is a fact that every relation in this world has some kind of conflicts among themselves, whether they are small or big. The conflicts exist within the major countries and nations and at the same time, within individuals as well. In “The Gathering”, the story revolves around the Duncan MacLeod and depicts that the biggest conflict and dispute occur between the immortals. The immortals have different reasons for conflicts, such as getting more famous than the other or acquiring something exemplary. In such cases, they mostly use violent acts that are considered immoral and unethical in human language ("Highlander: The Gathering 2nd Ed"). The existence of confidentiality and abuse, as well as countless traumatic events and defeats over the years that an eternal can encounter or observe, can cause them to become complacent. Immortals are just like ordinary people in appearance but are different in a way that they possess extra powers that a normal does not have. The greatest conflict and disputes occur among the immortals as they struggle to get the powers of the other immortals as well. In other words, we can say that a game occurs between the immortals in which the superior ones always win the game by taking away the power of the pre-immortals. Comment by JHolley: What is this? Is it a short story? A novel? How would the reader know? Comment by JHolley: Who are “the immortals”? What does that mean? Comment by JHolley: I am not certain where this idea comes from; however, you should be discussing the “game” here; because that it what motivates them to fight each other. Comment by JHolley: What do you mean by “confidentiality and abuse?

Humans who learn that they are invincible are either murdered by evil immortals who seem to want their strength and see an obvious scapegoat or are lucky enough to catch a trainer who can instruct them how and when to combat, thrive, and fit in along with the laws of the game. This fact is illustrated by one of the author's quotes, "You'll have to learn how to use a sword, for that is the only way you can defend yourself, and it's the only way you can defeat other immortals (Ramirez)." This revealed the fact that every individual, either moral or immoral, should know the basic skills of defending themselves against the evils of society because every man is for himself. Only in this way can he survive on this land, and this instinct of survival becomes the main source of dispute and conflict among humans. In the modern era, parents sometimes send their children to foreign countries so that they can defend such countries against evils. For instance, the children join the military unit and fight till their end to protect the borders of the country. The main reason behind the parents for sending their kids is that they believe that evil is the root of all the criminal acts and that needs to be ended for a prosperous and flourishing world. Comment by JHolley: I am seeing several uncorrected issues which I pointed out in draft one/ You need to go back and look at the comments.

In “The Gathering” it is illustrated that the immortals take the power of other immortals by beheading them. The process of beheading the immortals release the energy and power which in turn is taken by the others. This process is referred to as “The Quickening” in the series and the immortals used this process during conflict and war. One dominant reason behind this is the jealousy or vengeance among the immortals. In the series, “Ramirez” is a fictional character who uses the soul of “MacLeod” in order to return from death to life. Moreover, Ramirez also used the process of Quickening in order to establish the bond between himself and MacLeod which he considers to be powerful than the death. Comment by JHolley: This is confusing. Did you read this somewhere? Ramirez was the teacher of Connor MacLeod, who is killed off in one of the films. He has nothing to do with series.Connor MacLeod is the hero of the films; however, he appears once in the series, in the very first episode.

Moreover, in everyday life, we see that one nation declares war on the other, and we wonder why one state is against the other. Why do they not live in peace and are risking the life of everyone? These are some of the questions that arise in our minds, and one simple answer to this question is the "Competition." Every nation fights against each other so that they find better resources and have a well-organized status and position in the entire world. In "Highlander," the main source of all the rules that every immortal has to follow is the quickening. The two main rules based on this fact involve the fighting of immortals one on one. This means that no two or three immortals can group up in a team to give defeat to a single person. Also, the immortals were not allowed to fight in the holy place. It is also possible that the immortals can become friends by shaking hands with each other. The immortals do this only to fight for mutual interest because they knew that four hands are better than two and together, they can fight the evil. The same principle is seen within the countries that join their hands and help each other for mutual benefits. The one which loses its head in such a conflict and battle will result in the demise that is shown by one of the Ramirez quotes, "If your head comes away from your neck, it's over (Ramirez)." Comment by JHolley: The quickening is the life force, not the source of rules. The rules come from the game, the creator of which is unknown to immortals, which I believe I suggested on draft one is one of the problems. People follow a mythology, the authorship of which might be divine or human. This is as true in the series as in the real world. Comment by JHolley: You must fix these inaccurate citations.

In the narrative, "The Story of an Hour," the author Kate Chopin tried to send a signal to the public that behind each smile, it is not necessary that the person is also happy. Different groups of people struggle with various circumstances in this country, but we cannot know until anyone comes and talks about their emotional illness. Similar is the case with the woman in this story Mrs. Mallard who seems happy to the outside world, but from the inside, she seems to be a prisoner of love, care, and her married life. At the same time, one cannot know about anyone else until and unless they are not in the same shoe. The short story reveals that liberty is a hidden elation that can only be felt behind closed doors. The plot shows that liberty, whether in the form of hanging out or chilling out, is restricted to most of the women just because of the tyrannical nature of marriage. Moreover, the story does not depict at all the abusive nature of a man, but sometimes extra love, care, and possessiveness also become the hanging trap for a woman. The condition of the women can be clearly depicted by her words in the story "Free! Body and soul free!" (Chopin). Here the word “Free” means liberty, independence, and freedom. The writer wanted to convey a message to the world that sometimes the relationships become so suffocating that the person just wanted to be free from all the situations. Similar is the case with Louise who was become so suffocated from her marriage life that she wished to be free from her relationship. Every woman needs to make their own choices and decisions in life, which seems to be fade away after marriage as the woman has to take care of her husband's preferences as well. Their priorities and preferences change with this major change in their life. In this case, the conflict and dispute appeared between the husband and wife, which show that every relation has some kind of arguments, which directly lead to worsening the situation. Argumentations where both parties are not willing to compromise usually end up into the worst situations.

Another piece of the movie, "A Taste of Armageddon," is also based on war and conflict. Indeed, A Taste of Armageddon is a very fantastic analogy for the Soviet Union, the philosophical struggle that throughout the sixties lingered high in the backdrop, nearly hitting a flashpoint. This was the era of the Attack on Pearl Harbor and the Vietnam War, as well as the phase when it became apparent that it had the ability to last centuries in this epic debate. There was a feeling that the Soviet Union could proceed with this deadlock as the central superpowers colluded to maintain their rhetoric somewhat civilized and orchestrated their wars in international theaters hidden by alliances and proxies.

From the story, it is evident that virtue ethics would be significantly influenced by the Civil War. The storyline of the Union's partnership with both the Romulans in Equilibrium of Violence and the Replicants in Excursion of Discretion was notified by the concept of two joint commands locked in an ethnic struggle that attempted to bring into a military confrontation (Dixon). History shows us that human civilization has a disquieting power to make the impossible strange digestible, and it does not appear too distant external to the limits of imagination to vaporize the premise of a social structure of noncombatants queuing up in the big picture of things, considering what these individuals can persuade their believers to do for a purpose.

There are some people who believe that if different people or nations live in peace and harmony, then there would be no conflict, dispute, and war. According to them, the conflict is the only man-made, and they refused to accept the fact of vengeance and jealousy. They do not consider the fact of the quickening and beheading. Similarly, when they come to the point of relationships, people believe that if both couples compromise a little bit, then they can live a happy life. However, there are always some phases in which the one person in a relationship becomes irritated, which ultimately leads to the birth of conflict among them Comment by JHolley: This counterargument is not convincing. First off, the line of reasoning is circular. Living “in peace and harmony” is the same a having “no conflict, dispute, and war.” The argument is about the nature of conflict (i.e., manmade, and therefore avoidable, or inherent, and therefore inevitable. You cannot bring the quickening and beheading (fictional references) into a real world discussion. Remember, these are just proxies. You must discuss what these things represent (i.e., power and mortal combat). Also, you have not addressed the core issue in Chopin, which is that because of patriarchy marriage is oppressive to women; therefore (theoretically), it cannot work until society treats men and woman as equals. I don’t know why this is all in italics; however, it should not be.

Thus, from the entire discussion, it is concluded that conflicts and disputes are the roots of every evil. The immortals in order to get power from the others try to kill or behead them. If we look at the present times, then there are a number of people who in vengeance and jealousy try to destroy the image of the strong political personalities. Similar is the case in the relationships in which extra love, possessiveness and hate becomes the reason for conflicts and disputes. Lastly, different nations in the efforts for becoming the superpower try to deceive the other states by either cutting them out of the resources which results in aggression that ultimately leads to the occurrence of dispute, conflict, and war among them . Comment by JHolley: It looks as though you are deleting Star Trek; which, I think is a good idea. However, you have some work to do to make the Chopin story meaningful within the context of the argument. Finally, there are quite a lot of details that need cleaning up. You need to go back to the original, review the comments, and address those original issues.
