Now, record information about all the advertisements that run during one hour of TV watching or radio listening. This is a requirement. Even if you do not normally watch TV or listen to the radio, you are required to do so for this assignment. During that hour, try to identify ways in which the advertisements you see or hear are intentionally imprecise by answering the questions in this assignment.
NOTE: You must read your textbook to understand these strategies and complete this assignment correctly.
First, tell me when you were watching/listening, what the program(s) was/were, and post a list of the products advertised. Then answer the following questions:
1. What examples did you find of unfinished statements or unfinished claims ? List the phrase left unfinished (it is normally an incomplete comparison) and the question you are left to wonder about. Here are two examples that you should pattern your response after.
Statement
Example: “Easy Off makes oven cleaning easier”
Question: Easier than what?
Statement
The battery that “lasts twice as long”
Question: Twice as long as what?
2. What examples did you find of qualifiers like “ helps relieve stress” or “this could be the last car you’ll ever own”?
3. What examples did you find of connotatively loaded words like “a product high in food energy ” (i.e., calories)?
4. What examples did you find of puffery (make sure you've watched the video)?
5. What did you learn in the chapter and in this exercise about the tactics that advertisers use to sell products?
Note: Discussion posts must be at least 300 words long, not including the question,
