Scholarly and Peer Reviewed Journal Assignment.

Often in graduate school you are asked, and evaluated on finding, “peer reviewed” or “journal articles.” Over the years, I have found graduate and undergraduate students who are not clear on how to differentiate between scholarly journal articles (which have high credibility) from other sources (with less credibility). Because of these and other uncertainties, I wrote a book. For this discussion assignment, I offer you (for free) Chapter 5,  What is a scholarly journal? You can find this under course documents for week 2.

Assignment:

· Read  Chapter 5, What is a scholarly journal? (Kane, 2015) found under Week 2 -Course Documents. Pay close attention to the paragraphs and 3 page table at the end. Note: you may skip the exercise in the chapter, but I have my undergraduate senior students complete this exercise in my in-seat classes.

· After reading this chapter, go to Bethel’s online library and find one (1) example of a scholarly journal published in the last 5 years. The topic of the paper should relate to criminal justice administration and organization.

· In the first paragraph, briefly identify and cite properly the article’s main ideas and findings. Use paraphrases and at least one direct quotation.

· In the second paragraph, give at least 3 reasons from the table (Kane, 2015), why this is actually a scholarly journal article.

· Properly reference at the end your presented article and Kane (2015).

· Respond to your peers as expected. Do you agree or disagree that their presented article is actually a scholarly journal.

Discussions:  Word count is 250 words perfect APA technique. The minimum requirement is three (3) scholarly sources with at least one (1) source a peer reviewed article published in the last 7 years.
