CYCS3017 - MENTAL HEALTH - CASE CONSULTATION – CLEMENTINE QUESTIONS – FALL 2021
In the field of CYC, case consultation is a common practice used to identify the needs, concerns and intervention strategies when working with young people and their families.
The purpose of this assignment is to create an opportunity to consult with your group members – through this process, each group member will have a deeper understanding of the case study, practice the ability to think critically, hear other members perspectives and to make a collective decision on answering the questions.
This is a collaborative assignment – it is important that each group member participates in this process. Please take the time to consult with your group members before answering each question, rather than dividing questions without any discussions.
Format:
• All responses should be in complete sentences using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Remember to begin each sentence introducing the question being answered. You can identify each question with the number of the question you are answering
• 1-5 pages, typed, double-spaced (not including the title page). • Assignment must be completed and submitted using Word Document
or PDF. It is your responsibility to ensure the correct format is submitted.
• Ensure your groups members have been finalized and confirmed with professor. Please ensure to include all group members full name on the title page in alphabetical order.
• Only ONE assignment for the group is required to be submitted.

1. CYC’s are not responsible for officially diagnosing young people, however, we are responsible for identifying presenting problems. Based on your group’s discussion:
a. Identify, and explain five (5) different presenting problems in Clementine and her family. Remember to clearly explain why this is a presenting problem. (10 marks)
b. For each of the presenting problem identified in 1a) discuss what the contributing factor may have been. (5 marks)
c. Determine and explain a remedy, strategy, or intervention that a CYC can use to address two (2) of the concerns identified in 1(a). (8 marks) Don’t forget to come up with a different answer for each concern. Be clear and concise on how the remedy, strategy, or intervention would address the presenting problem AND explain the role of the CYC in executing the remedy, strategy, or intervention.
2. It is important for CYC’s to understand the perspectives of not only the young person, but those that are all involved in the young person’s environment. If you were to ask two (2) different individuals from the case study (ex. Clementine, Mrs. Naval, Mr. Naval, CYC, and siblings) how do you think they would explain what the issues are within the family. (4 marks)
3. How would each family member (Clementine, Mrs. Naval, and Mr. Naval) identify what is going well for them and their family? Explain why. (6 marks)
4. Based on the symptoms exhibited by Clementine: a. Which mental health disorder do you think she would most fit?
Ensure to support your answer with the appropriate criteria of the mental health disorder selected and evidence from the case study. (3 marks)
b. With the mental health disorder identified in Question 4(a), what are two (2) problems or controversies that you as a CYC should be aware of to provide effective work? (4 marks)
