CODE OF ETHICS REFLECTION ASSIGNMENT (30% of Final Grade)

Students will complete this assignment independently. It is each students’ responsibility

to begin the planning process early to ensure success.

Self-reflection is an important part of Child and Youth Care practice. The ability to

engage honestly in the self-reflective process often determines our efficiency-level when working in professional settings, the quality of the interactions we have with our

colleagues, the degree of meaningful connections we maintain with young people and their families and our willingness to exercise self-care when necessary. The act of

integrating self-reflection as part of our best practice is not an easy process and therefore steps must be taken to enhance this skillset.

The purpose of this assignment will allow you to critically reflect on your own best practice, while integrating knowledge about the Code of Ethics/Standards of Practice

outlined by Ontario Association for Child and Youth Care’s (OACYC). Your ability to thoroughly understand the ethical guidelines and apply them into your work is critical to

the well-being of the individuals you are called to serve and to your overall success as a professional in the field of child and youth care.

• The Assignment must be submitted via the appropriate Bb Assignment Dropbox. • It is your responsibility to ensure the correct assignment has been submitted

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT FORMAT

The assignment must follow APA formatting standards and guidelines as it pertains to font style, spacing, title page, page numbers, headings, etc. Please ensure you make

efforts to familiarize yourselves with APA requirements.

• Maximum 6 Pages, NOT including the title page (assignments will only be graded up to the page limit)

• The Assignment should be submitted as a PDF • Typically, a Reference Page is always needed but for purposes of this submission,

none is required

CONVENTIONS OF WRITING • Up to 15 marks for the Written Component will be deducted for grammar, spelling,

For EACH OF THE 5 (FIVE) PARTS listed, answer the following questions:

1. Explain in detail what this Part of the Code of Ethics is about and identify what the

different Sub-Sections outlined in this Part mean (4 marks)

2. Describe in detail which sub-section in this Part resonate with you most and explain why this is the case (2 marks)

3. Express which Sub-Section in this Part do you think is the most important for CYC

professional practice and explain why you believe this to be case (2 marks)

4. Choose 1 (one) Sub-Section in this Part that you could see yourself being able to implement. Provide a specific example of what it may look like in your professional

practice. Ensure you describe how you would achieve it and what evidence would inform

you that it is being implemented (2 marks)

5. Articulate in detail which Sub-Section in this part do you think might be the most difficult for you to achieve / practice as a CYC and explain your rationale (2 marks)
