You must also print off the file “Cwk2(Sketch Diagrams).pdf” from the “My Beckett” site

Mapping computations and Plotting

Download the file called “Cwk2.xls” from the ‘My Beckett’.

When you open the file you will be on the work sheet “Name”.

Enter your row number as indicated, and press the enter key.

( Your Individual Computation submission sheet ) ( MO1 = Mapping obs from St 100 MO2 = Mapping obs from St 200 Etc These worksheets contain the mapping observations from St 100 to St 800 )

Print of the worksheets “Ind Comp” and “MO1” to “MO8”

As part of this exercise you have to show that you understand how to compute Eastings, Northings and Elevations from the observed data. Each student has to compute 3 sets of Eastings, Northings and Elevations from 2 sets of mapping observations.

“Ind Comp” sheet

This sheet shows which coordinates you have to compute. This student has to compute coordinates from observations at St 100 and St 700.

( The data and required calculation differs for each student. )

( As you work through the calculation fill in the relevant yellow box in the submission sheet. The calculation is exactly the same as the one demonstrated in the Site Surveying notes. )

( Your Individual Computation submission sheet ) ( From St 1 00 C ompute East, North and Elev for pts 103 , 105 and 114 ) ( From St 7 00 C ompute East, North and Elev for pts 705 , 715 and 72 5 ) The sheets shown below show the mapping observation sheets for St100 and St700. They show the East, North and Elev for all the points EXCEPT THOSE THAT YOU HAVE TO COMPUTE.

( The indicated values must be computed )

( This diagram is a sketch of Queen’s Square. Its main purpose is to show the relationship between the survey control points. ) Print of the sketch diagrams, “Cwk2(Sketch Diagrams).pdf”, that go with the mapping observation sheets from “My Beckett”.

( This diagram shows which parts of Queens’s Square were surveyed from each survey control point )

Explanation of data on sketch diagrams and observation sheets.

Sketch diagram and coordinates for observations from St100. (You have this data for all the observations from all the survey stations)

PART TIME STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE TO PLOT THE BUILDINGS OR ROADS. YOU ONLY HAVE TO PLOT THE DETAIL WITHIN THE CENTRAL SQUARE AND ITS SURROUNDING FENCE.

( Sketch Diagram ) ( Booking Sheet )

The red numbers on the sketch diagrams refer to the Point Numbers on the booking sheets.

For each of these points you have an Easting, Northing and an Elevation on the right hand side of the booking sheet. (Unless it is one of the 6 points that you have to compute manually)

The blue numbers on the sketch diagrams refer to tape measurement. The zero point for these measurements is the feature marked 0.00 on the sketch diagram. The direction in which the measurement is taken is indicated by the direction of the arrow . These measurements are used to fix additional detail on the drawing once the coordinated points have been plotted.

Use these coordinates and the sketch plans showing how they connect together to plot the survey drawing. This CAN BE DONE ON EITHER AUTOCAD OR GRAPH PAPER.
