Critical Reflection
CW1: Critical Reflection Paper (40%; 1500 words):
The critical reflection paper requires you to critically evaluate the group position papers and the strategies adopted by two other participating actors in the simulation exercise. Guidance on the group position paper (not assessed) and the critical reflection paper (assessed) will be made available on Blackboard and discussed in seminars). Written guidance is available on the module Blackboard site.
The group position paper should present and justify the position of a given actor in the simulated negotiation on the topic described below. The actors’ negotiating positions should be outlined at the beginning of the simulation exercise before negotiations commence. Formulation of the position paper requires collaboration of actively contributing students. Individual contributions must be clearly demarcated. This group task is designed to develop the following skills:
· Written and oral presentation skills
· Problem solving
· Ability to apply conceptual and theoretical knowledge
· Information and data retrieval
· Writing skills
The Group position paper must be emailed as a Word attachment to the module leader on Thursday 16 March by 18:00. The papers will be uploaded to a dedicated folder on Blackboard on 17 March by 10:00. (‘UNSC Simulation Position Papers) for the other member states to read prior to the simulation.
When assessing the critical reflection, the lecturer/marker shall assess:
· The accuracy of the representation of the simulation event
· The understanding of diplomacy and the negotiation process
· The ability to use theoretical concepts and theories to evaluate own negotiatingstrategies and those of one other participating state.
· The writing and presentation skills
