Assignment 1: Design Project (30%)

Coursework Assignment: use CAD to design a Blanking Die Set to blank two letters of your names from a stainless steel sheet.

Requirements:

(1) Construct the 3-D model and produce the engineering drawings of your design

(2) Conduct stress analysis

(3) Select material for the die set, with reasoning and discussion

(4) Specify surface treatments to enhance the performance of the die set, with reasoning and discussion

(5) Submit a formal report by 21 March 2019

Specifications:

Material to be blanked: soft stainless steel sheet

Sheet thickness: t = 2 mm

Shape/Outline to be blanked: one letter from your name

Size:

Any artistic style

Any size within the range

Report: About 2500 words, covering background information, design specification, any calculation involved, design process, 3D model, assembly, 2D drawings, stress analysis, material selection, and surface treatment selection and analysis, etc.
