CSP-SM Post-Class Assignment 1
Assignment 1 – “Unlearning”
For this assignment, you will be sharing your largest moments of unlearning coming out of this course. Recall the "Reset" activities we started with, and the commitment to going back to the basics of Scrum throughout the course. You likely had some "light bulb" moments, inspired by revisiting the concepts in Scrum and re-thinking your approach on them.
First, choose four (4) items from the list below that represented the biggest "unlearning" moments for you:
|
· Sprint Retrospective · Scrum Master · Sprint Planning · Product Owner |
· Sprint Backlog · Sprint Review · Daily Scrum · Development Team |
· Sprint · Backlog Refinement · Product Backlog · Increment |
For EACH of the items you selected, fill in the questions below. A sample response is below to help you if you develop writers block.
NOTE - you may NOT use the same example four times. Even if your example crosses over into other areas, you must provide four separate entries for this to be considered complete.

Unlearning: Story Points
In 2 to 3 sentences, describe your thoughts about this concept prior to class that were shown to be not in line with the fundamentals of Scrum.
Prior to class, I was under the impression that these numeric values were tied specifically to commitments. I had also used this concept to identify levels of value as well as priority. Our team maps points to hours, and the conversations often become very heated and defensive.
In 2 to 3 sentences, describe the "unlearning" that you experienced with respect to this concept. Include how impactful it was to discover this shortcoming.

My organization is very metrics-driven, and this was another item that was misunderstood. This causes a lot of heartache and problems across a wide range of teams.
In 2 to 3 sentences, describe the steps that you will take to improve your own learning as well as your implementation of Scrum where this concept has been incorrectly implemented / understood.
Getting to that shared understanding of how this concept is used is something that I need to do as a leader. My plan is to bring these concepts back to my organization and with one team work to get to a common understanding of PBI level estimation and reinforce that the Development Team owns these 'guesses', instead of me, the PO, or an external organization. |
