Assignment 3:

Professional Dilemnas

Student’s First and Last Name

File → Make a Copy of this file so you can edit it on your Google Drive. Add your name to the file name.

Add your name to the title page 1.

Move to page 2 where you’ll find general instructions.

For each page, synthesize your research and write in complete sentences in essay format using 14pt type.

Write about each question, prompt, or process provided in the Notes below each slide.

Add additional pages if you need more room.

Cite sources by using hyperlinks in the Titles of the Article and Titles of Laws. See the example on the Writing Requirements page. Cite all articles and laws that you mention.

Do not change the font styles. They must stay at 14 point Lato left-justified type.

Do not bullet the paragraphs. Write in essay format only.

Add all sources to the Bibliography page.

Include author, title, publisher, date, and URL.

When in doubt, write the instructor for clarification using the Canvas Inbox.

Offline Editing

To speed editing and rendering in the Template files, set up the Offline feature:

While logged into Google Drive using the Chrome browser, click the gear icon in the top right of Google Drive. Select Settings > General. Click the box beside Offline to begin syncing to your computer.

Navigate to the Google Slides home page by clicking the Slides icon at the top left of the screen.

Click the 3-dot More icon.

Toggle Available Offline option to the on position (blue).

Move to page 4.

Professional Dilemma (Provided Article)

Choose one of the following articles (also on Canvas):

A) NASA, the "Challenger" Disaster, and How One Phone Call Could Have Saved the Crew

B) Whistleblower uncovers London police hacking of journalists and protestors

Synthesize what you read in the provided article of choice.

Summarize the article.

Identify the ethical issues discussed in the article.

What would you have done in this situation?

From the list of IEEE Code of Ethics, which codes could have aided in this situation?

Cite the sources as per instructions in step 1.c of page 2.

Professional Dilemma (Article of choice)

Seek out and find an article in which an individual had to make a difficult ethical decision in a professional context. For example, in the case of client misbehavior, bosses pushing them the wrong direction, data that didn’t quite meet their hypothesis but they edited to do so, or any other theme you can come up with.

Synthesize what you read in an article of your choice.

Summarize the article.

Identify the ethical issues discussed in the article.

ACM Code of Ethics

The goal of this exercise is to make this difficult-to-read document easier to digest. Your job is to paraphrase a section of the ACM Code of Ethics into a paragraph that captures its essential insights, and also relate it to your own work or future goals.

Understanding ACM Code of Ethics.

Read through the ACM Code of Ethics.

Choose one of the four principles listed in the ACM Code of Ethics.

Digest and paraphrase the information of the chosen principle into layman terms.

Spend 3-4 sentences relating the concepts described to your own work or future goals as a professional.

Cite the sources as per instructions in step 1.c of page 2.

This Project’s Bibliography

Using your bibliography tool of choice, add a bibliography for this project.

Each entry should include these items:

Author name

Title of the article

Publisher

Publish date

URL
