Cross-country comparison
So far we have focused on the American nonprofit system and its unique approach to solving social problems. To help provide a richer context for this system and to engage multiple perspectives for solving social problems, please complete a cross-cultural study comparing the US system and that of a county of your choosing (Sweden, China, Taiwan, Haiti, Ethiopia, Columbia). You should examine the history and development of the nonprofit or government-led system, discuss the current function of the system, and assess its efficacy in combatting a variety of social problems. In addition, discuss whether the theories of the US nonprofit system also apply to your country. You do NOT have to discuss all of the theories we have talked about in class; you may choose to focus on economic, social, or political theories. Please feel free to use any and all resources for your paper but remember to cite your sources.
In a 4 page paper please address the following questions:

b. Market based for-profit businesses
c. Non-profit sector
2. If there is a nonprofit sector that is distinct from government and for-profit business, how does it interact with government and for-profit business? Are there public-private partnerships?
3. How did your country’s current approach to solving social problems develop?
4. What sorts of issues do nonprofit organizations address?
5. Why does the nonprofit sector exist?
a. Can the theories of the US nonprofit sector that we have discussed in class (market failure, government failure, and/or social theories) apply to your country. Why or why not?
6. How effective is your country’s approach to addressing social problems?
a. Is the country able to recognize and address problems as they arise?
It may be helpful to pick a specific social issue and compare how the US addresses this problem and how the country you have chosen addresses the problem.
I am far more concerned with content than with length. Some people need more space to make their point while others are more concise. 3-4 pages is my estimate; you may need more or less space to answer these questions thoroughly.
