Part 1: The Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
· Considering the Fourth Amendment and the United States Supreme Court’s interpretation of the amendment, does someone who places their garbage bags outside have a reasonable expectation of privacy regarding the contents of the garbage bags? Why or why not?

Greetings Classmates and Dr. Egunjobi,
I have learned from my course in criminal justice, that if someone who leaves their garbage outside do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy the reason why is because, for example, I always take my trash out and put it in the garbage can then roll it to the in of my driveway sit it on the curb which is the public has access to it. I leave my house to go to work or grocery store that means I have abandoned my garbage bags. a law enforcement officer have the right to seized my garbage bag with the items inside without a search warrant. There is no Fourth Amendment protection because I left my trash bag on a public street. It would be different if I was at home and have my garbage bag at my front door and my trash is not accessible to the public and I did not abandoned my trash bag that is when the Fourth Amendment would step in. For example, if an officer walks up to my front door while I'm at home and he/she begins to search and seized my trash bag without a warrant the officer just invaded my privacy and violated the Fourth Amendment Constitution. I hope everyone will enjoy reading my discussion, have a blessed day.
