Couple, Marital and Family Therapy

Introduction

Couple, marital and family therapy are counselling sessions that help to improve and strengthen communication within a relationship and help to resolve conflict. Marriage counselling can also be referred to as couple therapy. Family and Marriage therapy are cycle therapies that help to focus and improve conflict resolution abilities within a marriage and family. This can be done through developing skills that help manage stress, improve communication with your spouse and loved ones as well as effective functioning in daily life activities (Johnson, 2008).

It is important for couple, family and marital therapy to be conducted especially in relationships that have poor communication, substance abuse, infidelity, parenting difficulties, sexual dysfunction or even financial problems. Family therapy is important as it helps the family members to deal with adversity especially in newly blended families. A family is a support network which is crucial to the mental stability of an individual because it gives sense of belonging. Parenting counselling is an important aspect of family therapy because the parents have conflicts with emotions, especially with dealing with maturing children that may develop acceptable attitudes and behaviors.

Summary

The article “the profession of couple, marital and family therapy (CMFT): defining ourselves and moving forward” is a good example of a marital and family therapy journal that was published in the year 2017 through the American Association of marriage and family therapy. This article is written with the sole purpose of addressing the challenges of defining the profession of couple, marital and family therapists. The field of couple, marital and family therapy has strengthened and evolved over the years but still has problems based on comprehensive scholar resources, name brand recognition and identity (Wampler, 2019). The article is aimed at giving a deeper understanding and description of the effective role of this kind of therapist based on integrated healthcare systems, mental health, value of practicing this type of therapy, physical health issues and giving a clear direction for the policies, research purposes, theory and practice. Couples, marital and family therapists help with the diagnosis, reimbursement and treatment of individuals within a family, marriage or couple. In order for this kind of therapist to accomplish identity, they should be fully committed to building it through adequate training and continued education that helps to develop better practitioners.

Critique

Analytically, the article expounds on the importance of identity and therapist during the couple, marital and family therapy. The therapists open face problems and difficulties when defining the profession in which they fit in based on integrated Healthcare systems. Through a modality perception, several people will analyze the profession based on the person receiving therapy instead of a conceptualized understanding (Wampler, 2019). I have been able to develop a more comprehensive and accurate description of a profession through the value the therapist gives the individual based on mental health, solutions to physical health problems, giving analytical directions to necessary policies, research findings, practice and theoretical aspects. Critically, we cannot ignore the disconnect between this type of therapy and perceptions of Healthcare that may bring challenges in treatment. Couples, marital and family therapy are often faced with the pressure of forgery and identity that will differentiate them and give them a unique brand as trained professionals in a specialized field.

Conclusion

The article is important as it sheds light on the need to identify couple, marital and family counsellors separate from other therapists within this field. This type of therapy requires organizational, financial and intellectual resources in order to accomplish and maintain recognition. Throughout the years, couples, marital and family therapists have been able to achieve legal recognition recently in comparison to other mental health professionals. They have been able to give and demonstrate a more unique and systemic intervention on the family level which is valuable to every family member that requires therapy. The therapy treatment approach effectively describes the role of this kind of a therapist through the value they give in relation to physical and mental health issues, giving and identifying proper policies and theories necessary for understanding and identifying the therapist separate from other mental health practitioners (Wampler, 2019).
