Summary

The paper explores several hypotheses regarding the intentions that people have to continue with online shopping and e-commerce in the face of potential threats to their personal data and even after they have been affected by data breaches. Moreover, the paper examines the differences in reacting to data breaches among the older and younger generations. One crucial finding from the study is that perceptions of potential data breach especially when it comes to sensitive information have a negative association with the online shopping intention among both the young and the older generations that were captured in the study. It, therefore, recommends the need for online shopping websites to notify their customers on any breaches to their data as well as any mitigation measures in order to build their trust while also reducing the perceived risks of data breaches.

Future Direction

the article would have been richer if it had been conducted through the longitudinal research design to allow for comparison between the pre and post-breach incidences. This would be an area through which further research on the topic can be carried out.
