Urgent Responses Needed - 8 Hours

After reading chapter 4, there are several adaptations which may permit Steve to work effectively with Riza. Steve must demonstrate awareness, knowledge, and skills. By researching these traits, Steve’s counseling section with Riza will succeed. As stated in the text, individuals working in mental health have an ethical responsibility to provide effective interventions to all the clients so they can adjust as needed to the needs of their client (S.Sue, 2003; Timble, 2010, Trimble & Fisher, 2006, Pendersen et al., 2016, p.77). By Steve consulting with a Filipino colleague was the first step to learning more about Riza’s culture. Steve must also learn more in reference to the Catholic religion to gain a better understanding of why Riza feels the need to be there for her family. By gaining more knowledge of Riza’s faith, Steve will understand why Riza is social isolation, passivity, and excessive guilt without making her culture or religion the bottom-line of her feeling depressed. Acculturation would work well, the reason being even though the Japans occupied the Philippines in the 1940s they have something in common. He needs to search for similarities in their culture.  

            Working in Financial Aid, I always must remain professional. Yes, there are times I have to acculturate with students when it comes to satisfactory academic appeals (SAPs), because the student may have had an event to attend that was important to his or her culture. Working the profession, you have to understand other individuals religion and know how this may affect the learning experience of the student at all times.
