Religion, Mind, and Society Spring 2018

Critical Commentary

Learning Outcomes

• Demonstrate understanding of the arguments developed within at least two scholarly sources. • Analyze the complexity of a CSR-related issue, topic, or problem. • Present a critical, compelling, and textually supported argument about CSR-related content.

Description Write a short, focused, and synthetic commentary in 1000 to 1200 words. The commentary should critically examine the treatment of one CSR-related issue, topic, or problem that emerged from course readings or in-class discussions. The commentary must incorporate at least two of the course’s assigned readings. Recognize that this commentary is not a research paper and should draw exclusively on the course’s assigned readings. Preparation Should you need inspiration for the commentary, review the reflections that you have submitted throughout the semester. Submission Instructions Submit the commentary as a typed, double-spaced document via Blackboard’s Assignment tab no later than Monday, 7 May at 5 PM. Be sure to identify your sources, wherever appropriate, using in-text citations and a bibliography in the style of your choice (e.g. MLA, APA, ASA, Chicago, Turabian). Make certain that your commentary is in its final state before submitting it. The submission portal will allow one submission only. If you submit your assignment late, you should not need to email your commentary to any of the TAs or either of the professors: The Blackboard submission portal will remain open after the deadline. However, assignments submitted after Monday, 7 May at 5 PM will be marked late and evaluated by the professors accordingly. This assignment, the critical commentary, will be worth 30% of the final grade for this course.
