Criteria for Grading the Review of a Film

The students will select a film that captures the human experience of emotional distress and will review it according to the written criteria listed below. A typewritten summary covering the criteria is required. The paper should not exceed three double spaced pages. This paper should be in APA format with cover page, abstract and reference page.

Criteria: Points:

1. Paper should be in APA format/spelling/grammar 5

2. As you view the film, answer these questions and include your

a. What specific psychiatric disease is depicted? 5

b. What characteristics of the disorder are evident? 5

c. What societal or cultural attitudes are reflected? 5

d. What ethical questions are brought to light? 5

e. Has your knowledge of psychiatric community mental

health nursing changed how you respond to the film or the

characters? 5

f. How could you use the film to help patients, families,

communities, or health care staff to better understand

mental illness or its treatment? 5

3. Form a nursing care plan with one of the characters in the film 25

you viewed. List 3 specific nursing interventions you would include

in your nursing care and state the rationale for each intervention.

4. Consider what you can do to foster an attitude of understanding, 5

empathy and respect toward people with the illness depicted in

the film.

5. Summary comments 5

6. Class presentation: must include all of the information above. In addition

you must include clips from your movie that depict the characteristics of the

disease/disorder. You must present all of this in 45 minutes—so be sure

to practice your presentation. 30
