Crisis Intervention
Final Exam #1-
Jody is a 35-year-old woman who is married and has 2 children. She has a 3-year-old and a 5-month-old. She and her husband, Mark, have been married for 8 years and seem to have a pretty good relationship. She and her husband moved here about 7 months ago for her husband’s job. They don’t have any family in the area and Jody is a stay at home mom. She was working full time prior to the move; however, since the move and having the baby she and Mark decided it would be better financially for Jody to stay at home to save on daycare costs.
Jody has a college degree in nutrition and had been working as nutritionist at a hospital prior to their move. She is a very healthy, active person, however lately she hasn’t had any motivation to exercise or watch her eating habits. She has not lost any weight after having the baby and his is bothersome to her. She only has one good friend and they talk almost every day. Jody hasn’t been calling her friend as often. However recently when they were talking, Jody told her friend that she was worried the “minions” were going to take her children from her. Her friend asked Jody a number of questions to understand what she was talking about; however, her friend could not make sense of it. Her friend brought her to you, the counselor, because she felt maybe Jody needed someone to talk to. The friend continued to inform you that Jody keeps talking about the minions taking her children.
Mark shares with you that Jody has been depressed and hasn’t been doing much but sleeping. He shared he has hired a part time sitter to come in the house to help with the children since Jody isn’t doing well. Mark relayed Jody will sleep most of the day. Regarding the “minions” Mark shared that Jody has mentioned them a few times; however, he thought she was kidding so he didn’t pay any attention to it. Mark informed you Jody had post-partum depression after their first child and was prescribed an anti-depressant which he stated she did well on and eventually stopped taking the medication. He denied she ever had any hallucinations or delusions in the past.
You go back and talk with Jody who shares with you she has been thinking that she may have to kill her children so the “minions” don’t take them. You talk with Jody’s friend who shared Jody has never mentioned this before. Her husband, Mark, also denied this. She denies having a plan to kill her children but feels if the “minions” continue on insisting they are going to take her children from her she will kill her children.
