Identify Different Positions and Underlying Assumptions

For this assignment you want to think about those people in your audience who might disagree or object to what you are writing in your op-ed My topic of interest first choice is Hate Crime Laws in South Carolina, USA. . Remember from the video you don't have to address views that are obviously ridiculous, malicious, prejudiced, bigoted, or hateful. But it is likely that some of your readers will have legitimate concerns or a different take on the issue. Think about what those might be and how you think you can address them. This doesn't have to be a long write up, you could just list possible oppositions with a brief explanation of how you plan on addressing them (or if you don't plan on addressing them, that's fine, just give me an idea of why you don't think you need to take it into account).

Everyone's topic will have opposing views. Even something like domestic violence will have people who believe that it's a family matter or things like that. Same with pollution. You will absolutely have people who will fight you on initiatives to clean up the beach.

Try to identify as many reasonable opposing views as you can and think about how, or if, you want to address them in your work.

In thinking of the views of others you also want to interrogate your own assumptions. Have you made any in your paper so far? If so, what are they and how can you address them?
