Creation/Origin Legend
English III
Ms. Manzano
Objective: Complete a written analysis of a creation/origin legend from an assigned tribe and compare and contrast it with the creation story read in class.
Process:
1. Within the Microsoft Teams assignment post you have been assigned a tribe based on the first letter of your last name.
2. Go to www.firstpeople.us . The link is attached the post for your convenience as Tribes.
3. Complete a one and a half to two page typed analysis. This analysis must include the following:
a. The title or name of your story or legend
b. The tribe
c. A one paragraph synopsis of the legend (in your own words).
Synopsis = summary. Do not paraphrase.
d. A one paragraph analysis of the legend. This will include a discussion of the symbolism, cultural lessons and ideas, and how this legend contains the characteristics of a creation story, as we discussed in class.
e. One paragraph discussing the similarities and differences between this legend and “The World on the Turtle’s Back”.
4. Create a comic book depicting the legend. This comic book will include 10 panels and must include narration along with the images. You may also include dialogue. Your comic book must be completed in color. You may use clipart for the images if you feel this will help.
5. Submit all work on the due date. No late work will be accepted. No excuses.
Things to consider:
· Follow the guidelines for typing your analysis. See formatting within attached worksheet.
· Analysis calls for formal language. You will not be using first or second person points of view and you may not use contractions.
· Paragraphs must be complete (8-10 sentences in length, except for the synopsis, which should be 3-5)
· Spelling, punctuation, and capitalization must be correct.
· Check your work.
· Follow the directions given.
· Submit work on time.
· All work must be your own. Any hint of plagiarism will earn you an Z.
· Failure to follow directions will result in a failing grade.
You will earn 1 classwork grade for format (A, C, or F), 1 classwork and 1 assessment grade for content, and 1 classwork grade for the comic.
