Creating an Ethical Work Environment and Global HR Planning

As you reect upon unfair working conditions, what is the rst timeframe and image that comes to your mind? There is a wealth of information regarding slavery in Egypt, Rome, the U.S., and other countries. Through the centuries, men, women, and children have been enslaved around the world and forced to work in horric conditions. Over the decades, people have fought for better labor laws as well as the safety and health of the workers. The MNCs in the U.S. are more than familiar with labor laws and OSHA guidelines. While these organizations are forced to adhere to these strict regulations in the U.S., the workers hired in other countries such as Indonesia, Africa, Latin America, South East Asia, Bangladesh, El Salvador, Mexico, and Cambodia may not be given the same opportunity. Gap has been recognized as one organization that has allowed unfair labor practices to persist. Evaluate the following organizations and determine what labor laws and safety conditions are being ignored to the detriment of the worker: Nestle, H&M, Walmart, Victoria Secret, Apple, Forever 21, Hershey, and Adidas. The global HR manager should clearly identify all employees and execute policies and procedures on a global scale.

Global Strategies for an Ethical Environment There are many factors for an HR professional to consider when developing strategies to create an ethical work environment. Peruse the topics and the articles in order to gain a more in-depth insight.

According to Vance & Paik (2015):

Before stafng and other detailed action plans are made, there should be thoughtful consideration, as part of careful global HR planning, about the nature of the present and future work demand and potentially viable sources of labor supply—wherever they may be, both in the short term and long term—that serve to achieve the strategic objectives of the rm. (p. 144)

The HR professionals, leaders, and managers must develop, implement, and manage the cross-border compliance plan for the MNC. The MNC should adhere to the laws issued by the host county and other applicable laws that govern the day-to-day operations of the organization.
