Craft journals
Your craft journal is a chance for us to talk about writing: the moments of inspiration you want to share, the struggles you may experience, the questions that come up as you explore your project in each genre. It’s also a chance to reflect on the various craft readings from class and how they may inspire or relate (or not relate) to your current project. You’ll write a new craft journal entry for each of the genres we write in, plus the final project, for a total of five craft journals (non-fiction, poetry, playwriting, fiction, final manuscript/workshop).
You can start your craft journal as soon as we begin writing in a new genre; your completed post(s) are due by the small group workshop date for each genre.
To access your craft journal:
1. Login to Brightspace (brightspace.ccc.edu) 2. Enter our course site, and click “content” in the top menu bar. 3. In the “table of contents” menu at left, click “discussion boards”. 4. Each genre will have its own craft journal forum. Find the name of the craft journal you
want to post under and click on it to open it (Just like making a discussion board post). Review the directions before you begin.
5. To make your own post inside the assignment thread, click “start a new thread” (below directions). Then enter your response into the text box. When you are finished, click “post”.
6. This is a private discussion forum; no one can see it except the writer and Prof. Ritt. Thus, no replies are required on the craft journal. Prof. Ritt will reply to your post; if needed, we can continue the conversation in the thread or during office hours, at your preference.
In your craft journal, please include the following:
Reflections on your current writing project(s) for class, including ideas, questions, inspirations, frustrations, and progress (+6).
o Length: 10+ sentences (these may be spread over multiple posts or all included in the same post, at your own discretion).
One or more quote(s) from any of the craft readings (from Bones or any additional or craft readings that were assigned). Please discuss how or why the quote inspires you and/or relates to your current writing process (+2).
o Please refer to a different craft reading in each of your 5 craft journals. Complete sentences, edited for clarity (+2).
Value: +10 points each; 5 craft journals total= 50 points possible
