Introduction   

  A code of ethics is a guide of principles developed to assist professional conduct business honesty and with integrity. The code of ethics document may list the values and mission of the organization on how professionals are supposed to address issues arising within the organization, ethical principles based on the business key values, and standards to which professional is conducted (Morin, 2019). In most cases, common problems that fall under business ethics include; discrimination, environmental issues, social responsibility, and insider trading. A professional organization is an association that is erected to further the interests of individuals engaged in a particular profession, to improve a particular profession and serve the civic good. In most situations, such organizations are non-profit associations that are dedicated to satisfying the interests of its members through facilitating innovation, communication, and connection. Therefore, a professional organization is entrusted with overseeing the occupation’s legitimate activity. In this paper, I decided to explore the ethical codes of American National Association as my professional organization, priorities and whose interests the ethical codes usually serve.

American Nurses Association (Professional organization)

     The American National Association is a premier professional organization representing the interests of the country’s 4 million registered nurses. The organization is at the forefront of advancing the quality of healthcare for all and is the robust voice for profession. It improves nursing occupation by indorsing an ethical and secure working setting, nurturing high standards of nursing exercise, and supporting on hospital issues that impact nurses and the general public. Correspondingly, American Nurses Association can say to have completed its mission when individual nurses attain their full potential and unite with others. To ensure this happens, there are various codes of conduct that apply to American Nurses Association (ANA).

ANA codes of ethics

    ANA’s code of ethics is a controller for carrying out nursing accountabilities in a way that is constant with superiority in nursing care and moral duties of the nursing profession. Fundamentally, there are several codes of ethics for ANA. There principles are basically what every nurse must be cognizant of in their day-to-day nursing activities.

Autonomy

    Autonomy involves recognizing every specific patient’s right to decision making and self-determination. As patient advocates, it is important that nurses certify that the patients obtain all health education, data, and options to select the choice that best fit for them. This encompasses all possible benefits, perils, and complications to make effective decisions. The nursing and medical troop can make a strategy to care in acquiescence with the patient’s health needs once the patient has all relevant data. It is therefore imperative for the nurses to support patients in their health wishes and make sure that the health crew is recalling all medical wishes of the patient (Painter, 2019).

Beneficence

Beneficence is charity and kindness that requires action on the part of nurse to benefit others.     Nonmaleficence involves not doing anything that can cause potential harm. This is the main principle of nursing ethics. It involves choosing intercessions and care which will render the least  harm to attain a beneficial result.     The nurse performs with kindness and respect for the intrinsic self-respect, without prejudice, and personal characteristics of each person. Respect for individual dignity is the basic principle that motivates all nursing exercise is respect for the human rights of all patients, worth and dignity. The necessity for and right to health care is worldwide, surpassing differences in all individuals. Nurses contemplate the dependencies and respect the values of every individual in every professional association and location; they lead in the progress of changes in communal and health guidelines that support this responsibility. Therefore, the nurses’ practice with kindness and respect for unique characteristic of each individual (American Nurses Association, Inc. 2016).

Provision 2

The second provision concentrates on the nurses’ principal mission in any health facility service to the patient. The second provision offers a guideline of the commitments that nurses are needed to uphold toward the patients. Correspondingly, it covers the benchmarks and the needs of delegating labor and effective approaches in supervising the practices. The nurse is anticipated to accept responsibility in their work position and lists the responsibilities of the managers and charge nurses.

 

Provision 5

   Provision 5 in the American Nurses Association code of ethics talks about professional competence and integrity needed from nurses as they deliver their responsibilities. Provision 5 outlines professional growth, self-respect, and maintenance of competence to help nurses deliver their duties more effectively. Nurses should perfect the same health promotion and health maintenance measures that they teach and research, seek health care when needed, and avoid taking redundant risks to safety or health in the course of their habitual professional and personal actions. When nurses are placed in circumstances that exceed moral limits or violate professional moral standards, in any nursing practice setting, they must express their conscientious objection to participating in these situations. The nurse is anticipated to determine the primary recipient of care, treat them with great respect and balance individual and professional dispute in duty.

Provision 6

    Provision 6 of the American Nurses association code of ethics covers the responsibility of nurses in promoting moral environmental virtues and values during their activities. The sixth ANA provision contemplates a nurse to be having an ethical obligation to maintain moral environments and advocate for molarity in their intermediate environment of working. Virtues concentrates on what is bad and good in whom we are to be as moral individuals. On the other hand, the obligations often concentrate on what nurses should undertake as moral agents. The nurses also gain from these codes in that they are equipped with knowledge and skills to proficiently handle patients with respect integrity and safeguard their confidential information.
