The report is published by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. The report provides detailed insights on what is known about COVID-19 within the stipulated time frame. It then offers an analysis of measures that the public health sector in collaboration has taken to respond to the pandemic among the measures assessed for effectiveness include travel restrictions, restrictions of social gatherings as well as changes that have been made in workplaces to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The report finds that as the pandemic evolve, there is need to continuously refine the control efforts. The article describes Italy as the epicenter of COVID-19 disease throughout the entire Europe. In response to the widespread transmission of the disease, Italy imposed measures such as lockdown, individual and community quarantines. To identify the relative effectiveness of the measures identified, the researchers developed an outbreak progression. The degree of adherence to quarantine policies was also assessed. The study found that transmission of COVID-19 will continue to occur unless stricter quarantine measures are implemented. Ideally, the study recommends an absolute closure of communities with high rates of transmissions in high populated areas. The article is a research about the events that ensued in the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt ship when conducting operations in the western Pacific Ocean during which an outbreak of infection with COVID-19 occurred. The researchers assessed the U.S. Navy response and epidemiologic investigation of the outbreak and found that the affected v=crew members were young at ages 30 and below. Those that operated in the confined places were more affected by the infection than those who were on deck. Following this outbreak, the navy implemented movement restrictions as a way of preventing crew members from bringing the virus on board. This articles will be used to provide arguments supporting travel restrictions as an effective response to infection control.

The authors recognize that there is no vaccine for the ongoing infection. Hence, slowing the infection remains to be the ultimate solution and it is does through quarantines. The authors describe quarantine as separation g healthy people from those who may have the virus and isolating the infected persons so that they do not spread the disease. They sought to identify whether quarantines stops the spread and if it also prevents death and whether it is effective alone or when combined with other measures. The modeling found that quarantine is only important for reducing the number of people who are infected. It is less costly and is effective when started early. However, combining it with other preventive and control measures increases its effectiveness compared when it is done alone. The research is scholarly and hence credible for use in the research.

The article is a commentary on current issues regarding the advantages and disadvantages of quarantines and travel restriction as COVID-19 pandemic response measures. The article argues that quarantines and travel measures are important to slow the spread the virus infection and gives a country time to indulge in more aggressive and assertive measures. However, the measures tend to cause panic, stigmatize some populations and do not effectively stop the spread of the disease. The article, though a complementary has been published in credible website that contains scholarly articles. The author’s affiliation is not indicated but the content can be used to argue for or against the above mentioned response efforts
