Course Reflection
The knowledge that the management 3332 course has provided is not only to be applied in the employment field but also in the day to day life. The knowledge that I have gained in the course is valuable, and if properly applied, the knowledge can help in increasing performance competitiveness in the area of human resource management (van Diermen & Beltman, 2016). During this period of the Covid-19 pandemic, the knowledge of this course can be effectively applied in managing human resource at a time when most organizations and companies are encouraging their employees to work from their areas of convenience away from the office setting. Some of the key takeaways of the course include.
Through this course, the roles that a manager is supposed to play have been made clear. Also, the course has also imparted the knowledge that scarce resources such as knowledge and skills should be maximally utilized to meet a specific goal for the firm. Therefore, I understand that as a manager, I should ensure daily operations go on irrespective of the situation, for example, during a pandemic that is currently prevailing. Due to the support of technology, as a manager, I can work with a virtual team to meet daily operation targets. As a manager, I am also supposed to ensure that the proper number of staff is available to meet a specific goal. This is important to ensure that some employees are not overburdened to affect their productivity. Therefore, from the course, I have learned how to conduct activities such as interviewing, hiring, and training of employees to ensure there is enough labor force, especially when working with virtual teams.
Knowledge about the dynamics of a business environment has increased my decision making knowledge, enabling me to make decisions that are effective. Therefore, I can better apply the business dynamics knowledge when encouraging teamwork and corporation among employees. Also, by understanding the dynamics of a business externally and internally, for example, when working with virtual teams, the course has helped me to identify and also reduce the risks that are likely or associated with working with different teams, especially virtually (Poe, Zamora & Quinain, 2019). By understanding the dynamics of a business, I can be able to make the decisions that are enhanced and have a relatively lower risk. Other than the course information enabling me to become a better manager, the information has contributed to making me a better person outside the employment sphere. Other than acquiring the skills to deal and interact with teams within a work setting, my interaction skills with people in my day to day life has improved. This is because of the understanding I have gotten from the course that all people are different, and they should be treated differently also.
This course has provided a positive understanding of the human resource, an understanding that is different from the understanding I had before. Unlike the prior perception I had about the human resource field being filled with negativity and negative experiences, I have come to learn this is an incorrect perception. The perception had been influenced by the limited exposure and knowledge I had about human resources. I now understand that human resource has challenges which are solvable with enough efforts, but the challenges can get out of hand once they are not addressed early enough. I have learned that there is enough knowledge about how challenges in this field can be approached and addressed early enough. Therefore, when challenges are addressed early enough, the field of human resources is fulfilling more than other career fields.
From the course, the best chapters were the chapters that were dealing with providing information on how to deal with teams. These chapters were presenting important information whose application is not only in the work environment but also in day to day life.
