Course Description:

This course addresses managing information and providing

support services from a design and media arts management

perspective. Information resources include internally and

externally developed information and assets, local and global

communication networks, and associated hardware and software

technology. Support services include the training and support of

uses, operational policies and practices, disaster recovery, and

security for electronic commerce within a creative enterprise

learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

•Explore the fundamental principles of information systems and apply the

principles to a design and/or media arts organizational setting.

•Evaluate the components, operations, managerial, and strategic roles of

information systems in creative organizations.

•Assess major technology concepts, developments, and managerial

implications involved in computer hardware, software, telecommunications,

and database management including content management.

•Explore the concept of audience engagement through new media tools.

•Distinguish how the Internet, intranets, extranets, and other information

technologies are used in modern information systems to support e-commerce

and e-business, enterprise collaboration, business operations, managerial

decision-making, and strategic planning.

•Apply information system solutions to business problems in creative

organizations using a systems approach to problem solving and a variety of

business application development methodologies.

•Analyze the challenges of managing information systems technologies,

resources, and strategies, including global information technology

management, strategic information systems planning, implementation,

security, and ethics.

•Identify and discuss key components of a technology plan
