Purpose: This paper will appraise the student’s knowledge and comprehension of ethical issues within

the context of computer technology, evaluate the student’s ability for critical thinking, and measure the

result within written context.

Due: Both hard and electronic copies must be submitted by 4:45pm, Dec. 5. The hard copy will be

used for grading, while the electronic copy will be used for enforcing the deadline and checking

potential plagiarism violations.

Task: Identify one cyber ethics topic, then find at least TWO articles on one case related to the topic you

identified in newspaper, magazines, or journals that were published after 2018. Then, write a report

discussing the ethical issues and analyze the case as you did for the case study exercises. Please follow

ALL the instructions, the paper format given below, and the final paper structure template for more

details to complete your final paper.

Content Requirements:

 Preferably, the topic of your paper is NOT something you were in charge during class facilitation

exercise. For example, if you led the discussion on IP issues as your facilitation exercise topic, try to

choose a topic not directly related to IP for your final paper.

 The case articles must be published more recently (2018-19). All cases must have not been discussed

extensively in class (during either face-to-face meeting, online discussion, or as case study

assignment). At least TWO references are directly related to the case you are analyzing.

 In addition to the textbook, the paper must contain a minimum of FOUR references (e.g. two

articles related to the case, and two related to the topic in general). Make sure to verify the

authenticity of your references, especially web/internet references. In general, Wikipedia or personal

blogs are NOT considered as acceptable references for this paper.

 When analyzing the case, make sure to apply all four steps in the CASE STUDY ANALYSIS

PROCESS WORKSHEET for Ethical Analysis and Decision Making. You may disagree with a

particular step in the analysis process; however, you must substantiate your opinion with credible

references (from books, magazine/journal articles, and web/Internet references).

 Make sure to use in-text citation in your text and present a complete reference list in APA format.

Format Requirements (check out the final paper structure template for more detail. You are encouraged to use the template while writing the paper.)

1. Your completed paper must be around TEN -typed pages (generally, 8-12 pages, but definitely less than 20 pages), double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, with one inch margins all around. Cover page, Reference and Table of Contents are NOT counted towards the total number of pages.

2. The paper must be saved as a WORD document (doc or docx file). If you are using software other than MS WORD (e.g. Open Office), you may want to save your work in both WORD and PDF format and submit both copies in Blackboard to make sure that the files can be accessed successfully.

3. The paper must be submitted in a cohesive and organized fashion (You can download and use the final paper structure template when writing your paper, or read the template carefully and follow the instructions there).

a. Cover page – Present paper topic/title, your name, date of submission, and a signed TU honor statement. An automatic ZERO will be given if the submission does not contain the signed honor code statement.

b. Put your paper into sections, and use headings to indicate different sections of the paper. You may use similar structure (in terms of main steps) as we did in previous case studies while using meaningful section headings to indicate the purpose of the discussion clearly.

c. DO NOT simply copy the case study worksheet/questions into your final report.

d. Each page must have a running head containing abbreviated version of paper title and your name.

e. Page Numbers and total number of pages must be presented at the bottom, centered.

f. Any graphs, charts, or other supportive information can be included and noted in the paper. Don’t forget to use citations when including this information.

g. Use in-text citation whenever citing resources. If you are citing facts from the same reference in one paragraph, only ONE in-text citation is needed.

h. Complete reference list in APA format must be presented at the end.

Submission Guidelines:

 Please submit your work (BOTH electronic and hard copies) BEFORE the due date if you cannot

come to school on that day. Unless previously approved, Automatic ZERO will be given for failing to

submit electronic copy on time, and 20% deduction will be applied if hard copy is not submitted on

time. NO exceptions.

 All electronic copies are due in Blackboard as an attachment. If you have trouble submitting through

Blackboard, send an e-mail attachment to [email protected] with "COSC 418 final paper

submission" as the subject BEFORE the deadline. System clock in Blackboard system or the date and

time indicated in the email system will be then used to verify your submission time. Any late

submission will automatically be awarded a grade of ZERO. Therefore, it is highly recommended to

submit EARLY. Technical glitch such as system or printer failure at the last minute will not be

accepted as an excuse for submitting work late. DO NOT try to submit it at the last minute.

 Hard copy delivery: I will be in my office between 3 and 4:45pm on Dec. 5 to collect hard copy

submissions. You may submit your work early.

o If I am not in my office at the time of your arrival, you may slip your hard copy under my

door or leave it to the front desk; ask them to put it in my mailbox. Then, you must send an

email to me with subject line "COSC 418 final report delivery" to make sure that I check

my mailbox before completing the collection of the submissions at 4:45pm, Dec. 5.

 Failure to use the right subject line when submitting through email will result in NOT receiving the

file on time which leads to grade deduction as specified previously.

 Please make sure the electronic copy you submitted is the right one and can be accessed successfully

in Blackboard. 20% deduction will be applied if the electronic copy is not consistent with the hard

copy submitted, or if the electronic copy cannot be accessed successfully(when hard copy is

submitted on time).

 All electronic copies will be submitted through plagiarism software. Policy regarding academic

dishonesty specified in syllabus will be applied.

 Lack of citations will result in an automatic ZERO for the paper!

 Please follow the format requirements carefully. Failing to present your report in the required

format will result in at least 10% deduction.

 Please follow all the general policies for assignment submissions.
