Analytical Paper 4: Covax and Coronavirus Pandemic
The BBC reported on the vaccines against Covid-19 which has being shipped
across the world to help overcome the pandemic that has caused a lot of harm in the
economics of the whole world, I want to discuss the benefit of Covax that will
ensure all the countries regardless to the economic status receive the vaccines fairly.
Currently about 38 Million of the vaccine doses have been delivered to 98 countries.
There is hope to end this pandemic if there is equally distribution of the vaccines
across the world said the Health experts.
There is a great need to share the vaccine because it has destroyed many life
to a closer of two million people in the world, it was reported that many richer
countries have bought more Covid Jabs compared to the poor countries. (The
Lancet, 2021). Covex has a target of ensuring that more than 2 billion people will
receive the vaccines in less than a year, 92 from the poor countries and 98 from the
rich countries. This scheme is organized by the World Health Organization (WHO),
Global Vaccine Alliance (Gavi) and Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness
Innovation (Cepi).
(Herzog, 2021). About $6 billion has been raised by Covax, which is not
enough and they wished to increase it with another $2 billion in order to meet the
2021 budget, some funds were received from the UK government which they gave
about $ 734 Million while the United State pledged $ 4 billion in December, The
first act for president Joe Biden in the office was to sign the United Nation to Covax.
President Emmanuel Macron from France has request the rich countries to send 5%
of their vaccines to poor nations.
Most vaccines which are been used in world, they are produced from the UK,
Russia, China, U,S, and Europe, rich nations have bought about 53% of the
vaccines while the poor countries have bought about 14%. According to WHO it
suggest that to end the Covid it will need about 70%of people in the world to be
vaccinated, if they could decide to vaccinate 2 billion people per year then it could
have taken many years to reach their target of 70% in the world, which has
estimated of about 7.8 billion people. The first 2 billion vaccines was to be given to
the front liners who include the health workers, elderly and vulnerable.
Consideration for door to door vaccine was to help reach the elderly without
exposing them to more risk.
