HEALTH ASSESSMENT FOR MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND

Community Health Assessment

Montgomery County, MD

Introduction

Montgomery County is the most populous state in Maryland (see Figure 2). The population consists of about 1 million individuals (See figure 2). Montgomery county is located on the western border of our nation's capital and has evolved into a booming county. It consists of many towns and urban districts. This county consists of northern and northwestern suburbs. Montgomery also consists of some major institutions that are influential in healthcare. For instance,the National Institutes of Health which is located in Bethesda as well the National Institute of standard of technology under the U.S department of commerce. This institute is located in the gaithersburg area. It contains northern and northwestern suburbs of Washington, D.C., such as Takoma Park, Silver Spring, Rockville , and the Bethesda–Chevy Chase area, The economy is dominated by the service industry, especially business, engineering, research, and health services (See Figure 1).

There are many recognizable strengths within Montgomery county, Maryland. First and foremost, it is ranked the best in Maryland for the quality of life as well as health behavior. Another strength would be that they are able to to improve on the number of alcohol related deaths and therefore aiding in the overall ranking of their health behaviors. Montgomery county has a 100% access to exercise opportunities. These are all aspects needed to have a good quality of life for families living within this county.

While Montgomery county is ranked number 1 among all counties there are also weaknesses that are observed and need to be mitigated. There are recommendations that will be made upon the community health assessment of Montgomery county. Firstly, Lowering the rate of chlamydia. Chlamydia is a sexuatlly transitted \disease that afeects men and women in society. It can be transmitted through oral, anal, and vaginal sex. The only way to be able to completely stop this disease is by refraining from anal vaginal and oral sex. Secondly, lowering the rate of obesity. Obesity occurs when a person intakes Lastly, lowering child poverty in order to increase the quality of health for those children. These recommendations will be placed within a five year plan.
