Part B: Constructs (Use Alcoholism as a construct for this assignment)

Researchers, experimenters, psychologists, and other scientists collect and analyze information to understand the world around us. In this discussion, identify 1 psychological finding or construct (e.g., social desirability) and describe at least 1 way this finding has been researched or used in experiments.

Please include the following information:

a) the name and explanation of the finding or construct

b) how it was or is studied

c) the impact of this research.

Examples

For the first initial discussion, I researched the psychological construct of motivation. Motivation is used to explain types of behaviors that are energizing and most of the time, directed towards a specific goal (Bindra, 1968).  Based on research, it has become more complex and diversified that contribute to an individual's success. This psychological construct inspires us to engage in goal directed activities that will contribute to our fulfillment, for example: motivating individuals focus on specific objectives, like saving money or playing a sport that include encouragement in people to learn, develop competencies, and perform well against competition.

An educational psychologist, studied people’s motivational behavior primarily for two different goals, which were to master materials and develop their competence, which are called mastery goals, and to perform well in comparison to others, which are called performance goals (Murayama, 2011). Mastery goals and performance goals represent the same overall quantity of motivation, which are distinct types of behavioral experiments to examine how these two different types of motivation influence learning (Murayama, 2011).  Motivation also involves energizing and guiding behavior, which are both aspects of inspiration. In the process of making a decision, an individual's motivational state will have an impact on the outcome.
