Introduction:
The campus store one of the most important places in college, it’s convenient for students, teachers and even the staff members. Did they forget their pencil, run out of notebook paper, or forget their folders at home.
A campus store offers an on-site place to replenish much needed suppliers. It saves students and teachers an extra trip to the store and it gets the goods in the student’s hands fast.
Identifications of Core Problem:
We know all that the college bookstore landscape is changing, students are fleeing the school-sanctioned bookstore and shopping for low-cost alternatives online.
Even more concerning, some students are neglecting to buy course materials altogether due to high costs or limited access.
Overpriced textbooks and the book allowance not covering half the books that required in the course.
They don’t have used books from virous courses.
School suppliers are limited and very expensive comparing to other places outside the college.
Also printing and copying service (Student Service) are so expansive and they have limited sources.
Situation Analysis:
Strengths:
On campus location, easy accessibility –o transportation needed.
Students can shop between classes for immediate need.
Weaknesses:
Higher prices.
Limited e-commerce shopping.
Opportunities:
Create an in-store destination to draw in students.
Create a loyalty plan to help students save.
Threats:
Competitors are creating smaller more targeted store for college students.
Students are outsourcing for chapter textbooks.
3- Objective:
Connections bookstore will provide students with the tools needed to be successful in the classroom. We will do our best to have all textbooks for the courses available before the first day of class. Offering used books from various courses and offering an outstanding to save money.
We also provide an assortment of school supplies, study aids and college merchandise.
4- Identification of Alternative:
There are a very useful alternatives for college bookstore:
· PowerPoint slider for the chapters in book.
· The internet: buying books online and use the web or digital library resources.
· E-books and printed notes - Cheap copies from books.
5- Recommendation:
· We must take the college bookstore to the next level by offering the students an enhanced experience and an alternative “Campus Hub” while at the same time dealing with the reality that printed course materials are shrinking as a percentages of store sales.
So, we need to develop our own Digital Library Recourse adding all material that we used all over the diploma program like assignments, e-books, notes, examples etc.
· Using online bookstores to deliver low-cost course materials, reduce inventory risk and save on over-head costs.
· Develop specific criteria for an online bookstore, including evaluation of user experience, mobile performance and customer service support.
· Short-term textbook profits must be balanced against the long-term goal of improving student satisfaction.
