REMINDER: We have 3 brains.
The architecture of the brain is haphazard
and disjointed.
It incorporates multiple systems.
Each of those systems have a mind of
their own (so to speak).
Levitin – The Organized Mind
Sleep is a good example of the three brains working together
The PONS sits deep in the reptile brain
Upon sleep, the PONS sends signals through the mammal
brain to the neocortex where dreams stir.
PONS dispatches messages to the spinal cord to produce
chemicals instilling temporary paralysis preventing you from
acting our dreams.

IDEAS AND ADVICE FROM THE
EXPERTS: Sleep
Exercise #1
◦ Groups 1-4 Identify how we are designed to connect with others and present your top 1 or 2
points. (Think about cognitive psychology, biology, neuroscience.) Select a team lead to
present.
◦ Groups 5-8 Identify how our innate design hinders us from connecting with others. Identify
our design flaws and present your top 1 or 2 points. (Think about cognitive psychology,
biology, neuroscience.) Select a team lead to present.
YOU THEM
CONNECTING WITH SPARK
Exercise #2 (You)
◦ Groups 1-4 Explore self-awareness and identify areas that may impact how we connect with
others.
◦ Groups 5-8 Identify tools or opportunities for self-discovery that may help us assess our
abilities to connect with others. (Think about cognitive psychology, biology, neuroscience)
Select a team lead to present.
Discussion ◦ Question #1 – How does who you are, your personality and character traits impact how you connect
with other?
◦ Question #2 – Regardless of how good you are at networking (in Q1), What about the target will
influence whether you successfully connect?
◦ Fill in the “Are you an Introvert” on PW – P24
◦ In your groups, develop a networking strategy for a virtual event
Based on the different combinations of introversion/extroversion.
PW - P43
• An ambivert can find balance in both realms of introversion and extroversion
• PW - P17-34 Workbook – a few self awareness exercises.
REMINDER: Self Awareness is Key
Do you ever notice when someone is matching/mirroring your body
language? If so, you are more self-aware and better at reading
body language.
Deliberate practice and a keen focus will help you improve.
• Did you know that if you can feel/sense your heartbeat, you will be
more in tune with reading body language.
• Profile of NonVerbal Sensitivy – check it out at Northwestern
University. Dr. Hall and Rosenthall
IDEAS AND ADVICE FROM THE EXPERTS: Virtually
YOU THEM
Exercise 3 - Them
1. What actions could you take to learn about the
person you want to connect with (Think about
personality, communication style, likes/dislikes,
hobbies, habits, etc)
2. Now think about this through a virtual lens.
3. How can you use these findings to assist in
developing a connecting strategy?
4. Identify someone within your industry and use
social media to identify as many things as you can
about the individual.
REMINDER: Deliberate Focus
People provide gems in every day interactions. Be a sleuth and
try to uncover as many as you can in every conversation.
Foster your awareness. Look deep and frequently.
• People share personal information on many social media
platforms.
• Teasing out fact from fiction can be difficult.

Exercise 4 - Synthesize
Provide an example of how you can synthesize the information about yourself (exercise 1) and a person
you want to connect with (exercise 2) into a connecting strategy. REMINDER: Think about Messaging platforms
Having a clear understanding of the potential client will help identify
the desired outcome.
Having a clear understanding of the desired outcome will help
create a platform and process that helps to produce intelligence
products that are meaningful, current and reliable.
• Be Strategic.
• A deliberate focus is required.
