Conducting a Needs Assessment

The Needs Assessment assignment has two components/parts.  Part 1 will be completed in a discussion forum.  Part 2 you will upload in the Needs Assessment Assignment submission tab.

Part 1: Explore articles in online, free access newspapers related to social services or consumer products that show how a human service or a new product was affected by an analysis of need. Keep in mind that you will have to read articles and make this inference for yourself. Do not expect any newspaper article to include the words "needs assessment" in the headline! Read the articles then use your deductive reasoning to determine whether the service or product discussed was the result of a needs assessment what need is being met.

Part 2:  Apply what you have learned from the articles and the video resources posted in Moodle and complete a needs assessment on the program you selected in module one for evaluation.

Using the form you used to select your topic, you will now complete section F: Elements of Justification/Evaluation Needs.  

Instructions:

a)      Program Type: Select a technology-based or technology-rich program for evaluation.

b)      Justification for Evaluation: Explain the need for evaluating this program.

c)      Description of Program: Describe the program and explain how the technology is used.

d)      Program Location and Size: Describe where this program is being implemented and the number of students or people using or being impacted by the program.

e)      Program Organization: Describe how the program is organized and delivered.

f)       Elements of Justification/Evaluation Needs: In this section, you will break down the need and justification for the evaluation and list all the elements you would need to include in your evaluation to address the effectiveness of the program. List and label the different variables you would need to measure, the participants/types of participants, training provided to individuals delivering the program.

g)      References: Provide references for the literature you have used to complete sections a-e.
