Concert Review Guidelines

· ONLY files submitted as Microsoft Word documents will be graded (.doc or .docx).  Please check to make certain that you are using this format.  Do NOT submit files formatted as Microsoft Works, Wordperfect, Rich Text, etc.  If you have questions regarding your file format, please ASK!

· Formatting Guidelines: 

· 2 full pages, typed, DOUBLE SPACED -- points will be deducted for anything less than 2 full pages.

· 12-pt font (Times New Roman only)

· 1-in. margins (left, right, top and bottom -- you will probably have to change the default Margins to make this happen). DO NOT CENTER THE TYPING

·  At the top of the first page (no title page necessary), please include your name (left justified) followed by your title on the next line down (centered) 

· Do not include extra spaces between paragraphs

· Documents less than 1 and a half full pages of text will not be accepted

· Points will be deducted for not adhering to these guidelines

· Do NOT plagiarize (this includes copying/pasting information from the internet)!! 

· Helpful Hints:

· Paragraph 1: Introduce the performer(s), their instrument(s), and the date, time, and location of the performance. You may give brief background information on the performer(s) if available.

· Paragraph 2: Discuss the composer of the musical selection.

· Paragraph 3: Discuss the history of the assigned musical selection.

· Paragraph 4: Discuss the piece itself. Include the full title, composer, composer's dates, and any brief information found in the program notes. Then provide your own musical observations based on the specific elements of music, as well as any general impressions or opinions of the piece At the very least, your descriptions should include the genre, style, tempo, dynamics, instrumentation, and character of the piece.

· Final Paragraph: Give your overall opinion of the performance. Include your most and least favorite pieces, and the reasons for your choices.
