Concepts in Organization
The organization is an essential aspect of a company. The organization is the process that concerns the determination of the work that is needed to accomplish a specific goal, assigning those tasks to different individuals, and finally arranging those individuals to ensure that each one of them does what is required (Palčič et al., 2020). Therefore, organization processes focus on enhancing organizational performance. To enhance efficiency within an organization, some concepts must be incorporated.
These concepts include but are not limited to a chain of command, delegation, a span of control, and work specification (Luppa et al., 2016). Concerning chain of command, there is the observation of a specified line of authority connecting all people in an organization in addition to defining the channel of communication as well as its hierarchy. Additionally, the chain of the command depends on two principles, which are unity of command and scalar principle (Luppa et al., 2016). Unity of command states that each employee is responsible to one supervisor. The scalar principle, on the other hand, refers to a well-defined channel of authority involving all employees.
Delegation focuses on transferring authority downwards, for example, from a manager to a subordinate. Today, many organizations utilize this concept in an attempt to maximize flexibility when undertaking different tasks (Lalic et al., 2017). Furthermore, through delegation, employees are empowered because they can make decisions concerning the tasks at hand. Also, work specification is concerned with the issue of specialization within the organization. Therefore, work specification is based on the idea that work output is enhanced only if each employee specializes in one are. In other words, work specification refers to the division of labor (Lalic et al., 2017). Additionally, the span of control focuses on the number of workers expected to report to one manager. Where a manager supervises an unspecified number of subordinates, the issue of supervision becomes challenging and may make the manager think of either narrowing or enlarging the span of control. Notably, where there is a large number of subordinates, the span of control must be widened.
Therefore, with the use of the organizational concepts discussed above, management within an organization is enhanced. For example, with the help of the division of labor concept, each employee understands what is expected from him/her. Additionally, the division of labor encourages teamwork, which, in the end, leads to improved productivity.
