Edgar Allan Poe

The work and influence of Edgar Allan Poe has become as ubiquitous as that of William Shakespeare. His stories use of horror, suspense, and the macabre have made his works a part of the canon of American literature and practically required reading around this time of year. Almost everyone has a favorite Poe story, but this week I have selected two of his most famous, one prose and one poem. How are both The Tell-Tale Heart and The Ravenexamples of effective use of atmosphere? How does Poe accomplish this? And do you have a personal favorite Poe story?
