Comparison Between Mona Lisa and Maddalena Portraits Comment by kaitogaming: This draft will require improvement in order to achieve a passing grade. Your introductory paragraph presents no argument, nor informs the reader what similarities or differences you will be comparing. You make an overall statement about Mona Lisa that it links "humanity and majestic nature without authority"- this could be a core part of your argument, but you need to explain what it means. What does the Maddalena do differently?  There is no clear structure to which  comparisons you consider. Different points appear in multiple paragraphs- for instance, you should have a single paragraph that focuses all the ways you mention that it's clear Raphael was influenced by DaVanci. You should also have a single paragraph for you your analyses of their different amounts of wealth, such as jewelry, clothing, and hair.

The comparison is the art of identifying the similarities between two more people or objects. One is expected to contrast and able to distinguish one object from another, or find what they two or more object share. Mona Lisa is a painting drawn by Leonardo da Vinci in 1452 who is from Italy and also a mathematician. On the other hand, Maddalena is a paint by Raphael in between 1503 and 1519, and it is also known as louver in Paris. Comment by kaitogaming: This is confusing- it has another title? This doesn't mean the Louvre museum in Paris, does it?

Maddalena portraits depict that she is wealth than Lisa. This art of being rich is portrayed her by wearing an expensive chain around her neck which has a significant gem. Also, she has a small string of well-polished jet around the neck; even she is wearing rings on her fingers hence showing she is rich. Therefore, indicates that her family is high in the society and hence portraying social themes in the paintings. Whereas Mona paintings, she has nor ornaments like the chains, rings nor the gems thus showing she might be from a humble background.

The background of the pictures is similar is landscape in both the Mona and Maddalena portraits. In both the landscape background, the trees and hills are shown out clearly. This tells us both the painters had a common interest may appreciating the role of nature in paintings. Also, the authors show us that the landscape is far away from the viewer’s hence sharing the same perspective. Comment by kaitogaming: The landscapes differ quite a bit in what they contain- do those differences matter?

Mona Lisa and Maddalena are both women. The female gender comes out because both are wearing clothes and the hair hence showing they are women. The type of dress does not matter or its price, what makes them women is that they are wearing dress and have long hair and body features like the burst showing all the portraits are women.

The painting varies in the light and darkens. In the Mona Lisa portrait, the author paints it darker may be to bring his intended message out like maybe it is an evening scene. On the other hand, Maddalena is drawn using a bright color like red and dark blue to bring out his theme or time of painting, or it was because of the advance in technology in the painting field. Different painters’ decide on the variation of light in their work depending on the theme.

In both the Mona Lisa and Maddalena portrait, the left hand is on the right side. This shows that there was an influence in their works. Raphael works then influenced by DaVinci art of painting. This similarity indicates that there is a connection between the past and present drawings since every author must reflect the work of the past to know where to improve and what to maintain. Comment by kaitogaming: Is this the only element that suggests an influence?

Mona Lisa is having a faint smile with loving eyes. This is different from the Maddalena who looks solemn and luxurious. The author s may try to put a different message to the diverse audience. Since Lisa look has to be from a humble family but she seems happy meaning, not necessary one must be precious to happy. On the other hand, Maddalena is had also the fancy jewelry, and yet in her portrait, she seems to be in a sad mood. This can put a message that being wealthy is not a guarantee of happiness. Comment by kaitogaming: Is this the only element that suggests an influence?

The curves of hair in the Mona Lisa hair are created through the sfumato technique. This is a technique whereby there is no use of line borders and involves the blending of colors. This method also includes the use of fine shadings transitions and mixture of colors and tones. Lisa stands out with a nature view with a faint smile. Hence the overall in this painting is achieved by linking humanity and majestic nature without authority. While in the Maddalena uses a different technology. This is because Raphael does not use the faint shadings like of those in the Lisa drawings. Maddalena stands up with a sad face, and the image is clear as the variance of light is high compared to the da Vinci portrait. Comment by kaitogaming: The meaning of this is unclear- what is the role of authority here? How is it shown not to exist? To me, Mona Lisa's posistion in the background, upon what looks like a balcony, suggests she may have some authority over the surrounding land. More explanation needed. The portraits are oil paintings, and both are drawn halfway. Maddalena and Lisa are both not drawn entirely hence the author works seem to be the same. Considering one is drawn from the other one. Therefore Raphael art of drawing was influenced by da Vinci since both the pictures are drawn on a wooden panel and in both the women are drawn halfway. Comment by kaitogaming: What does this mean?

Finally, Maddalena wears fancy clothes that seem to be so expensive. The dress is bright and highlighted with red. Raphael might have been inspired by the class some women who have might be married to wealthy merchants. Even her hair seems to be well-taken care. While in the Lisa drawings, she wears a simple dress which might represent simple background and her hair is not expensively treated like that of Maddalena.

In conclusion that there are some similarities in the Mona Lisa and Maddalena portraits like both are women, their left hand is placed on the right hand and the use of landscape background. Also, there are precisely differences in the jewelry, somber mood, the fancy dress, and well-treated hair. Also in Lisa painting, she has no ornaments, happy atmosphere, wears simple dress and sfumato technique of drawing. Therefore, comparison helps us to distinguish two or more objects using similarities and differences.
