First Draft
Politics Is Like Religion
In politics, the party or group able to align with the belief of the people wins their trust. The purpose of the candidate of that group is to gain the trust of the people. The opposition group only acts as a check group for the leading political group. Religion can sometimes be like that especially in the aspect of people's faith and belief. In order to convince a group of people to accept a religion, they need to be convinced based on what they can see and their spiritual connection. If the people can be genuinely convinced into believing in a spiritual being and ideology, then you should expect them to follow that religion. A change in their conditions of living and life in general will be enough to sway their attention. Politics refers to a group of activities common with decision-making groups, and other forms of power relations among people, such as resource or status distribution. It involves the agreement of a group of people based on a particular ideology in moving the society forward. A lot of actions go into developing a political idea with the people. They include negotiating with the people, making and enforcing laws. Politics is employed across all levels of our social life including family, religion. A political system embodies the passable rules and political methods within a society. Religion on the other hand refers to a behavior particular to a social-cultural system, made up of practices, worldviews, texts, morals, prophecies, organizations, sanctified places, and ethics, which show the connection between humanity and divinity.
In terms of the relationship between both terms, Politics and Religion share some characteristics in common. Firstly, both are concerned with discerning between good and evil. According to Aristotle, man is a political animal who strives for the good of himself and his environment. He is making plans and coming up with ideas on how to better his society. He tries to identify the positive elements of the society and how they can be used to achieve all round growth. Contrary to popular opinion which sees politics as a dubious subject, it is actually concerned with taking care of the people's welfare. Religion is somewhat similar in terms of its goal(s). The main purpose of any religion is to draw us closer to our conscience, thereby identifying good and evil. It helps us pick out the vices (sins) against ourselves and points us in the direction of light.
Secondly, both ideologies are being governed by a rule book/moral code. Every political act or doctrine is represented in the constitution of that society. Just like most religions also have a rule book they follow. Christians for instance, read the Bible and are expected to obey the commandments in them. Likewise, the Quran which acts as a constitution for the Muslims. The same way the Constitution of the State contains the 'Dos and Don'ts' of the society, the Bible and the Qur'an also contain the 'Dos and Don'ts' of the religions.
Thirdly, both Politics and Religion give room for diversity in their choices. Politics allows the people form factions and come up with ideologies that best suit them. Similarly, Religion also allows for different groups based on their interpretation of the rule book. For example, the people are allowed to establish religious houses and be part of associations based on their beliefs as long as it is not against the constitution of the land.
In Conclusion, I would like to say that in carrying out this assignment, we can see the relationship between religion and politics, as both are essential parts of a developing society.
