Overview of Essay
1. For this paper you must write on one of these topics:
#1: The differences between conversational styles in your native language and your second language
#2: Compare two famous people
#3: Contrast two famous people
#4: Compare two different stances on a topic/issue
#5: Contrast two different stances on a topic/issue
2. Your essay should include:
1. One intro paragraph with a hook and a thesis statement ( the thesis statement must be the last sentence of this paragraph)
2. Three body paragraphs with three topic sentences (each topic sentence should have ONE controlling idea and reflect the thesis statement).
3. One conclusion paragraph
4. One simile or metaphor in the paper (that you created)
5. Coherence, Support and Unity
6. Formal writing style
7. Specific examples in each body paragraph
8. You must use and correctly cite 2 sources that are academic and credible. You must cite them correctly - both in text and in the references. The sources must be academic and credible. They CANNOT be from the internet (unless they are from the library's article database. EBSCO is a good place to start).
9. Each paragraph must have at least 2 well-developed and detailed examples. Each paragraph needs 2 citations. You may only use one quote in your paper. All other information from your sources must be paraphrased.
10. Your paper must have a separate page at the end listing your references.
11. You must use 7words from the AWL, Unit 4, that are NOT related to Compare and Contrast or to previous classroom topics.
· Make sure to submit all your assignments as Word documents that you can post as attachments on CANVAS.
· You can maximize your grade on this assignment by turning in all parts of the assignment on time, and making sure that they satisfy the criteria in the rubric associated with this assignment.
· Your instructor will provide you feedback during the process using CANVAS. You should heck CANVAS frequently so that you can see whether you have messages.
· You must cite them correctly - both in text and in the reference section at the end.
· Your paper must have a separate page at the end listing your references.
· Paper format: 1 inch margins; 12 pt. Times New Roman font; 2-3 pages; double spaced; appropriate paraphrasing, quoting, and citations!
· Pay attention to due dates and the specific requirements throughout the process!
