Communication Developers
Developers are supposed to adhere to the programmers’ code of ethics, which implies that they have to develop applications which contribute positively to the society. Technology holds a lot of power that which is driven from the responsibility taken by developers to develop applications which apply to the day-to-day activities we face and it must be very considerate. However, this cannot be done without any form of referring to rules and regulations laid down to follow by either the company or the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers – Computer Science (IEE-CS). An applications is simply software which has to be developed and then reviewed to certify that it is okay for the public to use those (Florentine, 2017).
Therefore, it is not ethical for developers to develop addictive communication applications because for one, they consume a lot of the user’s time and make them not to be concerned with the little things that are around them. This is because any addictive application will not be refuted by the public when it is in their domain and any user can access it easily, thus making it more harmful in our lives in one way or another. For example, Facebook is a great application for networking, but a lot of negative stuff do happen within the application starting with bullying which in most cases, goes unpunished (Florentine, 2017).
Basically, the developers developing communication applications is not wrong, but any tool of communication can be a weapon and it all depends on how the users use it. First of all, all the developers have to understand what communication applications they are developing as well as what purpose they will play in the society because it should not be used negatively. Sometimes, the developers get into a contract which they do not know what harm it will cause to the users, and after the effects have started spreading, it is the time they start regretting what they did (Bort, 2016). This is where I conclude by saying that; I think addictive communication applications should not be developed, but rather they be regulated for the users.
