· Write a narrowly focused research paper about a First Amendment topic. See  Research Paper Ideas .

· Write a research paper prospectus. Note deadline on calendar. See Sample Research Paper Prospectus Worth five (5) percent of paper grade. The document should be double-spaced between paragraphs, in 12-point Times New Roman or Cambria and in Microsoft Word format. Upload to Canvas with "prospectus" in the file name.

· Paper should be 9-12 pages.

· use APA citation style. Include a References page regardless.

· Research must focus on primary sources, which are:

· court opinions from the reporter system

· law journal and law review articles for opinions of legal experts

· mass communication journals for opinions of media experts.

· Citation of the textbook, Wikipedia or Oyez.com will result in a letter grade reduction.

· Four spelling errors will result in a 64-grade-maximum – and F grade. Use dictionaries, spell checkers and proofreaders.
