MY SUGGESTIONS ON WRITING A FRUITFUL ARGUMENATIVE PAPER TO GET AN A (100pts)!

1. Do not use a passive voice!

a. With exception of the survey question and data and graph you will also interpret, make sure that the reader can hear your unique voice in the argumentative paper.

b. Consider using starter prompts like: “ I think that the death penalty needs to be abolished because…” or “ I support the use of the death penalty in our society because…” or “ I will give three reasons why I support or do not support this…blah blah blah)

c. Suggest something fruitful about this issue that has not yet been discussed

2. GIVE REASONS FOR YOUR ARGUMENT

a. Still, do not just make random statements, back-them up

b. Think of possible counter-arguments (your opponents) and meet them

c. Still, tell the reader what you will do. Tell them each step.

3. PARAGRAPH STRUCTURING…

a. (AGAIN) START WITH SOMETHING INTERESTING! (Ask yourself -how will this resonate with others?)

b. Questions—asking yourself questions can help with overcoming the mental blocks and jump-start your writing!

c. Good Transition between paragraphs

d. Mention sociological concepts/Provide fruitful Arguments/Apply 1 main sociological perspective (Functionalism, Conflict/Critical, Symbolic Interaction)/Show that you can use statistical evidence

4. (Again) BRIEFLY SUMMARIZE YOUR MAJOR ARGUMENTS IN THE CONCLUSION
