Reflection Essay on Literature

Literature has been an enjoyable subject for me since I joined the school. My literary understanding skills have been sharpened through the period I have attended this class. Literary skills have led me to develop critical reading and thinking skills that have sharpened my analysis skills of what's happening around me and the world at large. My strengths as a literary student have enabled me to be creative and insightful in approaching a literary piece. Through the period of the english ‘literature’ class, I have developed an interest in all literary genres and enthusiastically read and comprehend the literary piece to understand the literary work and relate it to most of the events happening around me. When reading a literary piece, I dissect through the passages and lines, and this has enabled me to pick up on subtitles and details that will bring the message and focus of the literary piece to a specific focus. Being attentive to the finer details has enabled me to make informed judgments based on cultural and political significance. Comment by Madeline C: This should be formatted like this: English literature. Comment by Madeline C: Check spelling here. Do you mean “subtleties”?

At times, people tend to read literary pieces, and the aspect that will be grasped is the plot and the outstanding idea, but the finer details of the piece still remain unexplored. More exquisite details of a text have a deeper meaning that requires fresh thinking based on the aspects found in the literary work. Literature changes the way we think and perceive most issues around us. Literary thinking tries to illuminate the ethics of resilience based on literature by intellectualizing the representation found in the literary piece. The literature presents how people can adapt to the differences that have already occurred without people realizing it. The cognitive dimension of literature has enabled people to deal with current and future challenges by changing how we perceive and think about most issues and concepts. Literature can affect our beliefs and thereby, directly influence how people interpret and think differently about the aspects in the world today. Comment by Madeline C: This seems like an interesting point, but it’s unclear what you mean. What is the “ethics of resilience?” Be sure to explain this more! And what does it mean to “intellectualize the representation?” Try to state your point as simply as possible, and use more than one sentence to explain it if needed, if it’s a complex idea.

At times, literature interpretation can be a challenging aspect though it also provides significant and unique rewards to me as an individual both in class and my career. Interpreting literature has nourished me with a complexity of much more in-depth details and mysteries of life. This approach has enabled me to approach challenges and problems with more tolerance and self-awareness than other people’s views. The skills that I get from literary interpretation tend to shape my career and give me a sense of direction. I have also developed criticism skills and accept positive criticism from my fellow peers. My communication skills, critical thinking, and writing skills have tremendously improved since I began analyzing and studying literature in depth. Comment by Madeline C: Can you explain specifically how it has shaped your career and given you a sense of direction? Use examples!

Through studying and interpreting literature, my thinking and writing skills have tremendously improved. I have read and analyzed a variety of literature from different eras and times, which has improved my writing skills. I have been able to write an excellent debatable claim in writing in which previously this was a challenge. Writing process never ends, and more so, writing tends to increase when one advances at the educational level. The way we think changes and thereby, new thoughts are developed that shape and increase the experiences in our lives and, more so, to me as an individual. The new strategies learned in class have enabled me to formulate significant opinions on matters and issues in society in the past and present life to me as an individual. I have learned many essential aspects of the literature class that has shaped the way I think and perceive things. Comment by Madeline C: This sentence is a bit wordy. How can you state your point here as simply as possible? Avoid using unnecessary extra words, because they often cause confusion. Try to be as direct as possible, using only necessary words. Try to do this throughout your paper. Comment by Madeline C: Can you give some examples here of the opinions this class has helped you form? Comment by Madeline C: Overall, you have a lot of good information in this paper, but it has a bit of a stream-of-consciousness flow. I’d recommend organizing your thoughts into topics, and focusing each paragraph on one topic. For example, you could focus one paragraph on how the literature class has improved your writing, one paragraph on how the literature class has improved your critical thinking and so on. Introduce the main topic of that paragraph in the topic sentence, and make sure all the examples and explanation you provide in the paragraph relates to that one topic. This will help keep your paper focused, and help readers follow your train of thought.
