Week Three - Commencing Research Theory and Design
· Nursing Research Week Three
Greetings class,
We are transitioning to another week of our class. I have read many robust conversations across our discussion board from week two. Please keep up the excellent work of research and discussion. It is important to open dialogue with each other regarding topics of choice.
I want to ask if everyone is satisfied with their research selections? Please note that the best work comes from the investigator who has a demonstrated need or interesting topic of their choice. Remember that this venue is going to be your personal creation. You will place time, effort and develop research skills related to your project. There is nothing worse than having a project that you may not be interested in exploring.
Your class reading assignments for week two will have concluded with the completion of chapter one: Identifying a Research topic and chapter two: reviewing the literature. Please make certain that your articles are scholarly publications and not editorials.
So, this past week we explored a library assignment related to your topic of choice. You have researched a topic and reviewed the associated literature that supports your potential research. Now the next phase of your project will require some leg work, meaning you will have to utilize the University Library. I am going to repeat that you will remember to visit the library to complete this assignment. Please place close attention to the instructions that are outlined in your course syllabus.
Entering week three, refer to your reading assignment from chapter three of our class textbook (Tappen, 2015), this section covers the Theory and Design Phase.
The purpose of this assignment is to provide a concise description and appraisal of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials of master’s Education in Nursing. Following APA guideline, provide a brief explanation on each of the essentials reflecting on each essential affects the clinical practice and the author's interpretation of each essential. Make sure to include a (Title page, abstract, introduction, body, conclusion, and reference page). Please submit it via Turnitin by the end of Week 3. This assignment is 10 points.
Your paper will consist of AACN Essentials I, II, IV, V, and VIII, this assignment is due at the end of the week on Saturday at 2359. Please refer to the outline below regarding how your paper should appear. Please follow the components that are listed. Adherence to APA guidelines is imperative. I highly recommend that you start early with this project as it will require some thought before you execute your paper. Please make sure that you are familiar with the article that you are going to write about.
Please ensure that you are utilizing your APA manual to reference in-text citations and article references. Now is a very good time to get into the habit of citing and listing references correctly. Correct APA utilization could mean the difference between an excellent paper or being charged with plagiarism. Remember that we will utilize “turn-it-in.com” to assess our documents for originality. We will converse more regarding our theory and design phase. When designing a study, many methodological decisions need to be made that influence the overall quality of the study and the ability to generalize results to other populations. At this time before we proceed, I am going to ask that everyone review APA formatting.

· Chapter Three Summary
The intimate connection between theory and research should now be evident to you. Research always has at least a worldview or framework underlying it, even if it is only implied. Theories need to be tested, and the results should be used to elaborate upon or to modify the theory, but this has not always been done. Further, our theoretical statements and propositions are often too general or poorly developed, posing some challenges for the researcher. Using the concept tree as an organizer can help clarify these relationships before you proceed with designing your research study (Tappen, 2015).
